Anyone used virgin mobile broadband for gaming? - Page 2

Before I went Sprint I had Virgin's unlimited talk plan on a Samsung Intercept. I had rooted it, and used a wireless tether app to connect my laptop to it when I was in the car waiting for my train for classes. Station was right next to a tower and on 3G I got up to 4 Mbps Down/2 Mbps Up with an avg. ping around 100. I never did gaming but I would stream movies, hop on to Teamspeak, check Facebook, or watch Youtube videos and I had no problems with lag when doing these thing but again I was RIGHT NEXT to a Sprint tower giving me perfect signal quality and ping. As for gaming I assume bandwidth would be no issue but the ping would if you were planning on doing any first person shooters, not to mention if you're not sitting on a tower then your ping will not only be high but it will constantly fluctuate by high amounts, and in gaming a consistent ping is better than a somewhat high one!

I know I didn't game but I do have experience with the service and in the end it's going to be a very similar experience!

Good Luck, Nick

He means Virgin Cable not Virgin Mobile internet, not 3G/4G...

Edit: Whoops never mind, but yeah you'll have high pings with 3g or any wireless internet like that.

I used Virgin Mobiles 3G to game once, and I live in a city that gets some nice Sprint/Virgin 3G speeds, and I absolutely could not game on it for long periods of time. The lag would be terrible, especially if I was in a TS server.

not tried vigin but my Vodafone 3g internet I had about a year ago was almost never fast enough to play any game I tried and I did live in a city centre.

I game on millenicon mobile broadband, which is something you might want to look in to. I live about ten miles out of town, with the nearest tower about 5 miles away, and ive seen pings as low as 70 on mine with download speeds up to 2 MB\S and upload running about 1 MB\s, which is playable even for games such as CS:S. they too, have an unlimited plan and pay Sprint, Verizon, and I think even AT&T to let them use their towers.

idk what country you are from, but here in the States Virgin Mobiles' unlimited data is throttled after 2.5 gigs of data used.

Keep in mind the latency on 3G networks is horrendous.

My triumph only gets ~300 ms to most speed tests, for reference.
