Captivate on 2.2 official. Want to loose the touchwiz, etc

Thread Starter
So have a captivate with official 2.2 upgrade. No luck with z4root, Odin, or super one click. Super one click wont open. Just shuts down when I open it. I have no clue about rooting but own this outright and want to try something like cyanogen or some other rom that might help its slow down. Anyone have an idea how to do this? Tried browsing xda and Howard but no luck or I'm not too good at it. Thanks!

There's your root. From there you install Clockword mod and flash the new roms through that. If you just want to ditch touchwiz you can just get an alternate launcher through the market and use that. With root you can even freeze TWLauncher through titanium backup so you don't have to deal with it at all.

If all you want to do is get rid of TouchWiz, I highly recommend you install Go Launcher EX (~7.3 MB) from the Android Market/"Play Store". You can customize the launcher bar, which also looks really nice.

You will need to install Go Launcher EX Notifier (~1 MB) so you can get little indicators on your launcher icons indicating missed messages, calls, etc.

Lastly, if you want a nice dark glassy theme to go with your launcher, as well as tons of glassy icons for your various apps, download Kxnt Glasklart (~24 KB). If I could take a screenshot within Gingerbread to show you, I would!

This is all done on my non-rooted Samsung Exhibit 4G for T-Mobile, an entry-level smartphone with only 329 MB RAM and a single core 1 GHz processor. It will take you awhile to customize it to your liking, but for me that's the fun part smile.gif

Thanks for the info on the Notifier. I wasn't aware of that and that was my only gripe re:GO Launcher EX. (rep for this)

There are some screenie apps out there that you can use with GB. Right now I'm using Screenshot UX Trial. Seems to work.

I have the Exhibit 2 using T-Mobile's $30 per month unlimited data plan. Pretty happy with this phone and the plan. My first week with so will let you know how it goes later. I'm rooted, running CMW recovery and running Erik Pigonizs' swap sd and external_sd script to swap mount points between the internal (sdcard) and external(external_sdcard) to take advantage of the larger space.
