before this cpu came out the word "bulldozer" sounded so badass. now whenever I hear bulldozer it's almost at the same level with the word "barbie". smh

edit:

more speed bumps? when is the new revisions coming out??

It really isnt that bad. I spent 6 months with a 8120 at 5.1Ghz and it performed great for me. Im not saying that its an amazing chip but its defintely not horrible. And if you consider that its a first gen it puts its performane right around where it should be.

Price to performance is not that bad especially 8120. Not much of an upgrade from phenom x6 but its definitely not a failure. I had tons of fun overclocking and playing around with the 8120. I was not disappointed with its performance at all but then again, I wasnt impressed.

On top of that, the Bulldozer architecture was made for their APU's so assuming that a first gen arch thats designed for APUs is supposed to come out and demolish Sandy Bridge is just ignorant.

Look at Phenom or Penitium. They did just as bad if not worse than Bulldozer when first gens were released. Thats all im gonna say about that.

i've been an AMD fanboy the past few years. (I owned almost all phenom II cpu's. x3, x4 and x6's) even bought a 990FX gigabyte ud7 board but tbh as much as I love AMD I couldn't justify a FX8150 purchase coming from a 1090T. i felt betrayed when benchmarks came out. had to sell the am3+ board which is not cheap to get here in manila. this started my hate towards amd and anything bulldozer related. sold my amd rig and bought this mobo+cpu+ram on my sig from a friend of mine who went sandy bridge. I've never imagined myself years ago owning an intel rig now. oh the irony. I was a huge intel critic not so long ago tongue.gif

i think they're horrible BUT i really want amd to succeed. like what you said, im still waiting for the second revision.if they produce a half-decent chip that doesn't need to dominate intel. i'll be one of the first guys that would be jumping to buy one

on the other hand. those trinity apu's are awesome. I have a llano laptop and it's unbelievable. I've been thinking of getting a trinity laptop and giving my llano laptop to my mom who is still using an old amd turion laptop

Meh.

I wonder if they were serious about leaving the high-end segment.

Le saddness.

Well, I think it was more about the "bull" part. Speed could also mean less for more like during the clock speed wars, but that didn't happen.

thats pretty dumb to get a board and everything just to get rid of it just by looking at benchmarks. You shouldve atleast tried it out cause you probably would have liked it. The FX chips are a hell of a lot of fun to overclock and do fairly well overall. Especially with multitasking and video rendering/editing. You bought the board and everything for it you should have atleast tried it out. Benchmarks mean nothing compared to real world use. The fx chip performed great for what I used it for but that doesnt mean it will work well for others. I am just saying through my experience that fx chips are far from garbage and really when you look at the fact that they are a first gen chip that has an architecture is extremely different than anything else AMD has done, its really not that bad of a chip. Once we get to Vishera (3rd gen FX) we should start to see the real potential of the Bulldozer architecture.

Also if you go by what AMD says and plans, then Bulldozer is meant for APU chips and will function better with an integrated GPU which makes sense if you understand the Bulldozer architecture and why its designed the way it is.

You obviously should have spent a little time with the chip before just brushing it off like that. To be honest, when I first got my chip I was a little disappointed but after about a month of bios updates and what not, I was pleased with its performance. Someone that has no experience with something doesnt have the credibility to claim anything about it. No one should just go by benchmarks.

i have 480 SLI and only use my pc on gaming so yeah. bulldozer might be good for you but not for me. it's a downgrade for me so the most "smart" thing to do is sell the board. got the last gen i7 and had nothing but performance increase. if I did what you said and "tried" it. that would've been a MUCH MORE DUMB move than what you're trying to say esp if you had any idea how bottlenecks work and what kind of performance I'll get from two-threaded games. just saying.

tbh I never expected bulldozer to have lower IPC than phenom II. I think that's a reasonable expectation. I didn't want a intel beater. I just want an upgrade from my 1090t but it turns out, going FX8150 was dumb. tbh I had the money to upgrade to a 2500k. I felt so disgusted I didn't do it, just bought this from a friend of mine for a very good deal you wouldn't even beleive it.

I was still expecting it to lose clock for clock to intel cpu's but shine on multithreaded tasks but to see it's slower clock for clock than a phenom I and BARELY keeps up on multithreaded apps with intel cpu's was just horrible. didn't like this thread to turn out this way. but forcing someones opinion on someone else and calling it dumb was real classy
