So I'm trying out my first tablet....

Had some cash sloshing around in my funds *gotta love payday* and I saw Costco had a good deal on a Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 and i've been curious for a good while on trying a tablet to see what the hub bub is about on these as people keep talking about them repeatedly to the point of actually replacing laptops *yeah right* I was only interested in Android based tablets even after playing a bit with an iPad2, I hate Mac products and the company for a variety of reasons.

In any case, its actually a pretty slick device but i've got some general questions on its capabilities that maybe some veteran android tablet owners can answer.

1. Anyway to get one of these to see shared files/folders on a local LAN so I can stream music and or videos?I'd be more willing to keep this if I was able to do that somehow.

2. Is it possible to use 3rd party applications for the webcam, like yahoo messenger or even facebook chat w/ webcam?

3. Any particular good or bad differences between major brands or do they all function the same for the most part due to android OS? The samsung seems nice, I was just curious if Asus's hyped up Transformer series or Motorola's were any better. It would be nice to have an SD slot for more storage, this model doesn't have that.

Thanks for any incite! Now that i'm trying one finally, I can see why people like em as long as you don't need the full flexibility of a laptop.

How much did you pay? The Galaxy Tab 10.1 was the device I was leaning on before I looked into the Transformer Prime. I ended up going with the latter because the Prime was Tegra 3 and the Tab was Tegra 2 and they were at the same price point. I do notice that some places are selling the Tab for MSRP minus $50 now.

To partially answer question 1, I don't see why not. My Prime does it with software provided by Asus. Essentially, I can stream files off the PC or use the tablet as a media server. It also came with 8 gigs of web storage.

But yeah, I'm sure there is software on the Android marketplace that does this on any device. I've used FTP software on my Nexus One before.

For question 3, I can tell you that the Prime has a MicroSD card on the device itself, as well as microHDMI. If you get the optional dock, the dock has an SD card slot and a USB slot.
