Help with my iPhone 3G problem?

So, this thing has been through so much with me over the 4 years I've had it. Dropped in toilets when I was hammered, dropped at the bar when I was working, alcohol spilt on it, I even dropped it in a bowl of hot soup one night! It's STILL going strong after all that and the battery life is pretty decent.

This thing is my life and now the Home button has stopped working frown.gif

I saw on YouTube an app you can get after you jailbreak it that allows you to shake the iPhone and it acts like you're pressing the Home button! Awesome, but I have no idea how to jailbreak or what to use, and I've heard you need to hold the Home button to jailbreak it.

I could fix it but I don't want it to die/mess up since I can't afford a new phone. And I can't get a replacement part for it since I don't have a credit card frown.gif

Can anyone help me out? My firmware is 4.2.1 I believe and I'm getting VERY tired of having to turn off my phone then turn it back on to get out of an app :/

I was on 4.3.3 when I first jailbreaked but check greenpoison. Which you need to go in to DFU mode to jailbreak.
To go under DFU mode you must press both the POWER and HOME button for like 6 seconds.. so I really don't think you can jailbreak your phone.

Try:

General settings ---> Accessibility ---> Physical and Motor, Turn on Assistive Touch.

Ta-da?

Oh, sorry. Looks like those options are 3GS and up only. rolleyes.gif

It was a white dot on the lower right screen that brought up a touch menu for all the hard buttons.

get a visa prepaid card, and buy another home button on some sketchy chinese website.

chances are it will show up, and then you can install it and have a good day.

the button is probably ok, however the dock assembly wouldnt be a bad idea to be replaced.. infact i'd probably replace the home button and the dock assembly, the assembly can be had on ebay for about 7 dollars and it will give you a new speaker, mic, and dock assembly. the home buttons can be had for a few dollars. good luck. i've replaced many.
