Suggestions for build

Thread Starter
I'm going to start off saying yes, I'm new here and this is the best fitting section to put this thread that I could find.

So, I have an upgraded Dell Dimension e520

-Stock CPU (1.86 ghz)
-EVGA Nvidia Geforce GT520
-2GB DDR2 RAM
-460 watt PSU
-500 GB WD Hard drive

I know, it really sucks so far but I only had a 250 dollar budget to fix a computer with no HDD, GPU, or PSU.
I am looking to return my GT520 because I didn't really even put a lot of thought into buying it. 4GB is the max memory my motherboard can have, and I'm pretty sure it limits my graphics card aswell. So I am essentially trying to get
-A better Video Card
-A better processor
-A better Mobo
-More RAM

For about the least amount possible, while still salvaging a good amount of performance. I looked around on newegg and came across the "bulldozer", the octo-core processor from AMD. I really like it so far but it is a HUGE power hog and I'm afraid that I would have to upgrade my PSU also.
I bought my piece-of-crap GT520 for about 45 dollars.

I am kind of new to this whole system building thing. Like, not brand new, but I am still getting used to it. I really need help trying to piece together a better gaming system here. Any advice is very much appreciated. smile.gif

do you have a budget you'd like to stay close to? I will admit i'm not to familiar with the space inside the case you have so this mobo might not fit properly but this will give you an idea of what you could look for.

Thanks for the reply. It really helped a lot in terms of a mobo. I believe the case will fit up to a standard ATX mobo.
As for the processor I see that it is OEM, which generally means it comes with no fan/heat sink. Would this CPU be fitting for gaming?

For the 550 Ti I found a GIGABYTE version for about the same price but with an increase on both the core and memory clocks.
Next up, I need RAM. Anything over 4 GB is great for me. The price is getting up there, but I like what I am seeing so far so I think it will be worth the wait to save up the extra cash.
Here is what I found for RAM. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314
8 GB seemed like plenty, considering my buddy has 16 and has only ever got it to use 46% of it.

How do you feel about my case? The only outlet for air is right next to the CPU on the front. I am thinking about cutting in a fan on the side... I'll just have to learn how to do that first... Here is a picture of what my case looks like image914.jpg 3k .jpg file

Thanks so much for the help so far.
