Some NH-D14 installing questions

Thread Starter
Hi!

I just bought the massive Noctua NH-D14 cooler and I'd like to ask a few questions before installing:

1. What's the best thermal paste for the cooler? The one in which came with the D14 or my already-opened nexus TMP-1000?

2. What's the best way to put the paste on? With the current cooler I put a short line of it in the center and let the cooler spread it, should I do the same with the D14?

3. Can the paste be cleaned with no alcohol? The only thing I have ATM is nail polish remover tongue.gif (Not for my personal use, no jokes on this one...)

I'm going to clock my i7-2600k to around 4,5Ghz so the cooler should be right for the job.

Thanks!

I use the Noctua paste that came with mine, works great. wheee.gif

I apply it by putting a pea-sized blob in the centre and then spread it around with a old credit card. At 5 GHz my 2600k idles at 40C and under load around 71C.

I personally had some problems with my T1000 and installing on my D14, the NT-H1 that comes with it is really good.

Installing is your personal preference, but what I usually do is put a blob in the middle, and then spread it out very thin with a credit card, and finally install the cooler

Usually you want to keep the alcohol content in your cleaner as high as possible (90%) but did your T1000 not come with any cleaning fluid?

At 5GHz I have it at 1.440V, 4.9 can be done at 1.428.

Jealous of you and your temps. I struggle to get it stable at 4.7 GHz with 1.45v of voltage, but it usually hits 85-90 at those temps

I have the same cpu and cooler... I used AS5 and OC'd to 4.5 @ 1.28 volts.... temps max 62... idle 30

I am not sure I would use fingernail polish remover for the cleaning process.

Best method to apply thermal paste to cpu is pea size dot in the middle.

Okay, idles @ 28*C, going to Prime95 it now with stock clocks. Maybe install ULNA because it makes quite lowd noise. Any way to use voltage control, because I think my board does only support PWM?
