3700 Sandy OC

Thread Starter
High all. New to this forum, and fairly new to overclocking. I think I have a good basic understanding, but I am up against a bit of a wall and need help.
I am currently OC'ing my 3700 sandy. I have been able to get a stable 2.6 Ghz (10 x 260)with my ram at 1:1 and my core voltage at 1.52.
I have 2 x 1gb OCZ EB Platinum and a DFI Lanparty UT Ultra-D, powered by a
600W OCZ GamerXtreme PSU. I am running the latest official bios release.
Last night I tried to get a new stable run at 2700, with the following specs
-10X270MHZ ht
-ram set on a 180 divider(also tried 166)
-3 3 8 3 11 timings 1T (tried 2T as well) ( I loosened everything up so as to not worry about my ram, but it will run up to 270 without memtest errors)
-Core Voltage 1.52V all the way up to 1.64V
-I tried both auto htt and manaul 3X htt
-My heat peaks at 52 degrees under full load at 1.62V.
I have my Chipset voltage bumped up 1 notch, to I think 1.3V, and my ht voltage up one notch as well(I think 1.6). I am running my ram at 2.78 volts.
I dont really want to run 24/7 at that voltage, but I was able to get a nice 30 second 1M Pi run, and a 27 minute full Pi run, but only about 40 minutes of Prime, and it fails.
I am out of ideas. I have toyed with the idea of a new bios, but am not really sure why this would make a difference on the CPU OC (fill me in if you know better, cause Im new to this), but other then that, I am not sure what I can try.
My CPU stepping is a KAB2E, and I am sure that I will be able to get more out of this system yet, but I just need some help. Thanks in advance...

Wish we knew what stepping you had. You may have one that is at it's max OC.
DOOOwp, sorry I missed that "KAB2E"

Have you worked the max stable system below yet?

hellow and welcome, first off go to quick link and fill in your system specs under user cp i think it is, also try to keep below 50c ion your cpu, thats a nice rig you have by the way, it sounds to me like that may be the limit to your cpu if youve tried different settings like that, a 3x or even 2x multi ht and i know that ram is good stuff and will run 270 and that mobo will definatly do it

about the only thing i have to add is maybe try a 9 multi on your cpu, sometimes people have gottena slightly higher oc with a lower divider

Date depandant on your stepping, some have oced much higher...
http://www.overclock.net/amd-cpus/10...ighlight=KAB2E

From what I've read in there you may want to consider more vcore, but your current full load temp says no Case air flow may have a part in that being you have a good FHS. Did you use AS5 and if so hope you didn't put on to much. Also, how was the sinks mating surface, if rough did you lap it?

WOW, this is my kinda forum. I post, and have that many replies in 10 minutes. YOu guys are great. And yes, I have updated my system specs. Thanks...And I can run my Vcore up to 1.64 and still be at the same temp, but its still to hot for me. I used AS5 and I only put a small dab right in the middle, the way the guys over at DFI-street specified. I have great stock temps (I think there great anyways) and I have 1 120 fan pulling air out of my case, and 1 120 fan pushing air in, as well as 1 x 80 fan pushing air in. If anyone has any tips, Im open for suggestions.
My full stepping is KAB2E 0545CPCW
My max stable memory is confirmed up to 270MHZ (havent checked beyong that yet)
My max HTT is unknown (not yet tested)
My max stable CPU to date is 264MHZ, and that is what i am in the progress of checking right now. I guess I should have tested max htt before I went on to CPU. Forgot that part. I normally do keep my temp below 50, but I wasnt to worried about 52 during the Prime test, as it was not far above my limit. I thought about trying 9x with a lower mem multi, as I was able to boot into windows at 9x280 at a 1:1 memory ratio.(not prime stable) Probly alot of stress on the memory controller at that speed, so maybe if I drop down to 166 memory ratio, I could actually pull of a 9x290+ test. Ill try that. Thanks again for all your help, and I look forward to reading more of your forums. So far they look GREAT.

Hi, thanks for your input guys. I have tried the TONYS 704bt-2 bios from OCZ, but it did not seem to help. Before I tried the new bios, I was able to get my CPU to 2700mhz(9x300) with my memory at 249mhz 9hrs prime stable ( I stopped prime, no errors ), but after that my internet explorer kept crashing (so I guess I wasnt stable) To get to 2700, I had to have my voltage at 1.62.
I am pretty sure that I have a CPU with a week memory controller. I can OC this sucker over 2.8, almost 2.9 prime stable, as long as I have my memory running at 100mhz divider, and I can overclock my memory to 285mhz as long as I have my CPU underclocked to 1.8, and I can OC my htt to 320 as long as the other 2 are underclocked, but as soon as I get above 2700mhz with my memory anywhere over 200mhz I crash. I have tried 11x 10x 9x, and they all get to 2700 and then I loose stable. At 2600, I can run my cpu at 1.52 volts, but at 2700 I need 1.62+ volts to keep stable. Unless someone else has some great Ideas, I think I have found the somewhat underwhelming limit of my CPU. Thanks again for all your help.

BTW the stepping is E4 (KAB2E 0545CPCW)

how many volts are you pusing through your ram right now? you might need to up it a notch or two. Also the chipset voltage can be key in getting it stable. I have to run my chipset voltage at 1.7. But we have two completly different boards so that point might be moot. But try upping your chipset a notch or two more and your ram. Especialy if your keeping your ram at 1:1 it need more volts

I was running my ram at 2.7 volts and my chipset at 1.7 and my htt voltage at 1.4. (BTW, what is the recommended max voltage for OCZ 2 x 1 GB EB Platinums anyways??)
