Front Panel Audio is bad for people who care about the audio from headsets, fyi

Thread Starter
Just thought I'd post this here.

I plug my headset in through my front panel audio, as my rear panel is reserved for the surround sound system. I've always had this buzzing interference noice that I've never been able to get rid of. It could be heard on my microphone too (it would render microphone boost useless really, made the buzz too loud).

Keep in mind, this is in an old antec 900 with no behind the board wire routing capabilities, and the GIGABYTE EP45T-USB3 board. Headset is Razer Carcharias.

So I rerouted the front panel cable from where it was (down, under the ram, basically on the mobo, into the Audio slot at the left side of the mobo). I moved it fas far away from the mobo as I could, it's now routed up close to the side panel, over the cpu heatsink (xigmatek sd1283 style) and down into the slot. Now that interference is gone, completely.

Now I have no idea if it's just the specific antec front panel, the case (lack of under board wiring), or even the board, but it seems that if I want to have pretty wiring, I should neglect the front panel audio and just use an addon sound card for my headset.

Anybody else experience this?

ps: Using higher quality headphone (Samson SR850) amplified the interference. Once again interference gone with rerouting of wiring, or just using different audio jack (such as rear panel, or the one on my speakers).

Same case, same buzz for front panel.

I think lack of shielding, poor components on front io panel of 900, and possibly different output to front all sort of come together in this perfect spiral of crappy audio quality. Got myself basic extension cables, manually switch when i want to go from headphone to speaker etc without reaching behind the computer.

This is a pretty common scenario. As much as some can rag on Antec 900 for lacking all kinds of modern features, it's not like this interference issue is particular to this chassis.
