somewhat serious. He said it was just for photographing his rig. no need for VR. also as stated, for candid portraiture I prefer a lens other then the 90mm or 105mm. On DX that is just a little too much reach for me.

You're confusing your needs with those of others. Tamron didn't decide just to slap VC on the 90, it's a worthwhile feature that many people use and appreciate.

I'm not, he said photographing his rig. He uses DX. I found that 90mm is in that range for Candids where it is just long enough to be akward to frame up, but not long enough to be covert or unintrusive. VC has its place, Rig photography and macro is not dependent on it. Everyone else was referring to other possible uses outside of what OP said. Isn't it all opinion anyways? I happen to have gotten a good copy of the Tamron 90m Macro, and I've also had the chances to use a Nikkor 60mm, and a Sigma 105mm. Any of which are good choices, the 90mm just happens to be less expensive.

For candids and walkaround portraiture I find a mid range zoom like the 24-120 better anyways. The tammy 90 or tokina would both be reasonably price great alternatives to the slower 85 3.5

Taken any portraits of kids lately?
