Should I RMA my Asus board?

Thread Starter
Hello everyone,I am facing a dilemna on my Asus Sabretooth motherboard.Just recently I turned on my computer to find my graphics resolution had reset to 640x480 for no reason. It would not let me change it to any other resolution, yet it showed my Visiontek 6950 in the device manager. As I was attempting to fix that problem,I noticed it was booting into Windows 7,and bypassing the Asus startup screen altogether.I could not log into the bios at all. After that,I tried booting back into Windows to my desktop, and I realized it would show a copmletely blank screen once I powered up,but when I returned several minutes later,my desktop appeared, but at the reduced resolution. After several more attempts to solve the graphics problem,I am completely unable to boot into Windows,or the bios.I have switched out graphics cards, power supplies,to no avail.Specs are Asus sabretooth 990FX latest 901 bios,FX4100,Visiontek 6950,Antec high current gamer 900 watt power supply,Corsair vengeance approved memory, and Western digital 500gb sata 3.0 hard drive. The board is showing a constant red boot device led when powered on.I have removed the board cmos battery, and reset the cmos with the jumper, each to no avail. The cpu led is not showing being lit,so I am thinking the board is toast.Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.Thanks.

Sounds like the board's SATA Controller decided to take a vacation. I'd give Asus a call and tell them exactly what you told us, more than likely they'll issue an advanced RMA if you're still under warranty and such.

How long did you leave the battery out for?

Troubleshoot with each component detached one by one.

Re-build the entire rig from scratch!

If you haven't already! Then I would go ahead and RMA!

I know it seems ridiculous, but try it for 24 hours. Am I too late in replying? I've been doing uni work, sorry! smile.gif

i don't know man, it should only take a couple of seconds, ten seconds at max.
some people says wait a minute, then 30 minutes, then a whole day, what's next? a week?
i don't get it.

Well, it's just to be on the safe side. Because it can still hold charge, you want to leave it off so you know, 100% it is drained. Then when you boot back up, the battery will recharge.

Also, may seem ridiculous, but push all your components in a little harder, maybe your GPU is slightly loose?

I'd seriously consider RMA'ing it ASAP!
