Newbie Overclock with some questions and Confused by BIOS Options in A8V-E SE - Page 2

The CPC or Command is a RAM to MB timing thing, not an actuall RAM timing spec. 1T is fastest, 2T can promote stability when the RAM is pushed to it's peak stable speed. 2T will effect the performance about 3-5% in real world apps, in benchmarks that's a different and very skewed story so don't be concerned with the 2T effect in benchmarks.

So what do you recommend for the memoy setting? Also that motherboard info doesn't help as you can just manually tell it what voltage you want, whereas in mine I have two confusing options.

Memory timings can be a pain. The guide on how to find there highest stable speed should be helpful.

What are the default timings of the RAM. A CPU-Z screen shot of the SPD tab would help.

Hmm, I looked intyo the 1t/2t option and it appears increasing the clock of the ram would be a better idea. Do people change their memory timing options? Or is it also advisable to keep those stable to get a better clock? Anyways, of higher importance is the crazy voltage settings in the asus a8v-e se.

Timings...
Relaxing... to aquire higher speeds along with voltage increases.
Tighter timings are good, but relaxing them and compensating with higher speeds somewhat ballances it out.

heres a ****load of info from cpuz
Ill have to look for into how memory timings work and stuff, but ill post a picture here for any quick comments. I'm running in whatever the bios has by default. I had to change the ram setting to manual to get in there to change the ddr frequency, so I may very well be running my ram timings slower than what I could be (its hyperx memory designed for this kinda stuff I hear), in a second Illl fiqure out what model im using (matched pair) and see where Im at.

hammer vid? vcore offset? anybody?

cpuz isnt helping me find the exact part number, ajnd there are two products on kingstons website for their 1 gig kingsont hyper x pc3200 matche pairs. Any help/tips on finding out what I have? (Ive been using this patched pair for along time, as you can see, over a previous socket 754 a64, and maybe even my older athlon xp system (crazy old school)

Being your at 173 MHz on your RAM with those timings you have a bunch of head room for CPU OCing.
Considering that and you may not have anymore head room on the CPU OC, you may either be able to either decrease your divider or tighten your timings a bit.

Oh I'm defintaly not done with overclocking my cpu, I dont quite have the patience for prime95 at just a 200 mhz overclock, so I quess Ill just shove it up to 2.8 ghz and see whats the from there.

I always kinda fiqured dropping your ram down to 166 and then pumping up the baseclock to get it back up around 200 would be a good starting point for any newbie overclocker. At least with athlon 64 overclocking.
