SATA & Serial ATA are they the same?

sorry i maybe a dumb question but is SATA and a Serial ATA the same thing?

i want to get a new HD for my Albatron KX18D Pro II Motherboard i want a 250GB and greater but i dont know which one to get. i was looking on newegg but i dont want to order something that wont fit in my computer.

Yes its the same thing. Serial ATA is just SATA typed out for the S
