Sim City 4 on Bulldozer, unsolvable crashes

Thread Starter
Sim City 4 crashes within 30 seconds of loading ANY map, big or small. It just exits to desktop without any kind of error msg.

First off, I am already aware of the fix for Sim City 4 crashing on CPUs that use multi-cores. On my old phenom II, i just added -CPUCount:1 as well as increasing page file to ~8192mb and this fixed 99% of my crash problems.

However, with my new FX 6100, setting -CPUCount:1 isn't helping at all. I have tried manually setting CPU core affinity in task manager as well as disabling crossfire, increasing paging file to 8192mb, setting CPU priority to high, etc.

I have searched pretty well and all of the fixes pertaining to this game are about older cpus. I am hoping someone is able to shed some light on why bulldozer is unable to play this game (probably has to do with the threaded cores).

Try cpucount:2

I tried -CPUCount:2 and also manually setting affinity in task manager to core0 and core1. Still crashes just as fast

here is my current commandline "G:\Games\Sim City 4\Apps\SimCity 4.exe" -CPUCount:1 -EH:off -intro:off -CPUPriority:high -CustomResolution:enabled -r1920x1080x32

I could never get this program to run on 7. I have tried on multiple systems it may not have anything to do with BD. Mine always crashes when alot has to load on screen. At least the new one is on the way.

I was able to run it on windows 7 with my phenom II and crossfire enabled. all i had to do was add -CPUCount:1 to the commandline of the shortcut. this does not work with my bulldozer.

That sucks probably has to do with the way a bulldozer is setup. Parts of the core is shared with another in the same module, and simcity not like more then one core.

If you have a copy of older Windows (say Windows XP), use VirtualBox to run Virtual OS and play games on Virtual OS. Be sure to enable AMD-V in the BIOS.

I tried running on virtualbox, which I had installed previously. After some various tweaks within the VM and simcity, I was finally able to load a map and play at low-medium graphical settings. I was starting to believe it was going to work when suddenly it crashed after 5 minutes of playing. I made sure the VM was set to use only one core, use 128mb VRAM (max), and also had more than enough pagefile set.

So even though using the VM increased my playtime, it still did not remedy my problem frown.gif

here is the commandline i used in VM: -d:software -intro:off -CustomResolution:enabled -r1280x960x32 -CPUCount:1
