Eyefinity, 30" Monitor and Opinions needed!

Thread Starter
Hello everybody!

Okay! I am doing my first big upgrade (well overdue) in a few months when Ivy Bridge is released (3770k, SLI 680 GTX's, etc.) and I need a bit of advice. I am looking to upgrade my monitor setup and I am looking for users opinions on the matter. I've got three paths that I am interested in, however if someone has a better idea I am all ears smile.gif

One: I buy a second Dell U2711 for multi-tasking and not bother with Eyefinity or do it at a later date. However I've heard that some users find using Three U2711's in eyefinity a bit daunting for First Person Shooters.

Two: I sell my current U2711 and buy the Dell U3011 or the HP ZR30w.

Three: I sell or keep my current U2711 and go the eyefinity route with Three 23"-24" 120Hz monitors.

Although I must say the idea of going back to a TN panel doesn't sit well with me and would much rather stick to IPS, but being stuck at 60Hz has gotten annoying lately to say the least. I know some will say go the CRT route and I would if it weren't for space and availability.

Anyway thoughts, opinions and ideas are all welcome. smile.gif

Thank you in advance.

IMO, selling your current U2711 for a U3011 is probably the best bet. Eyefinity is still rather in it's infancy and 120Hz TN panels, are well, TN panels.

Plus the U3011 is a 2560x1600, albeit at a slightly less pixel density than the 27". Have you ever thought of buying x2 IPS 20-23in and setting in portrait next to your main monitor?

Eyefinity with 120 Hz monitors will require a lot of power. Even sli 680 won't be enough. So either go with eyefinity on 60Hz monitors or go for 2 120 Hz monitors without eyefinity. IMHO eyefinity with 60Hz will be best for gaming and 2 120Hz moitors will be best for productivity. If you want best of both worlds, go for 3x1 eyefinity with 60 Hz and keep your u2711 for the fourth monitor in extended mode. thumb.gif

I'd go with single 1600p Monitor
Then a cheap 1080p panel later on for multi-tasking.

You have a great monitor already so it's hard to recommend something.

Personally it would be hard to go back to TN panel but if you just want a change I say 120hz eyefinity would be the way to go

I did think about doing that with a U3011, but from what I heard not many people enjoyed it. I like the idea of it, but is it actually any good?

Yes, going back to a TN Panel doesn't sit well with me.
