I kind of wish they use OpenGL instead, but DirectX does allow easier porting on PC.

We know that the PS4 will use a x64 CPU but what about the next XBox. Hopefully they also nod on the use of consistent hardware, that would a complete win for gaming itself. Devs won't need pull their hair out because of hardware fragmentation and more time could be focused on the game and gameplay.

Yeah, DirectX doesnt make any sense consider it's a Windows API. I'm sure this is just garbled information from some sort of report about PS4 running on AMD x86-64 CPU and DirectX11 'capable' hardware. I gotta imagine Sony is still going to use some Linux variant as the PS4 OS.

I imagine that the XBox will be using an x64 CPU as well, considering it's very difficult to get a CPU worth it's weight that isn't 64-bit these days (even Atom is 64-bit). Plus, if they are smart, they will put at least 4GB of RAM in those things...

Also, DirectX is just an API. You can put whatever you want under it as long as the "hooks" line up. The XBox isn't running Windows, so I imagine that it's not really a requirement as much as just a technique to sell more copies of their OS.

This makes a good amount of sense, apparently a lot of developers were complaining about how hard it is to code for PS3, this will also make translating games between the consoles easier. thumb.gif

Yeah. That is still the blunt of the info that we await.
Without somewhat powerful hardware the games will be baked so badly from the start that the use of PC hardware won't matter as much. I just hope they reconsider the low-mid range GPU's they've been electing.
