Not at all, the best time to get a game in the competitive scene is right off the launch. People lose interest when features as simple as demo recording are not present on launch. You need a base to start the competitive scene, which is completely gone by the looks of the second Alienware tournament. First Alienware Tournament wasn't even very successful, I'm actually surprised they even bothered with a second to be honest.

Leagues hosts games with big competitive interests. The way they designed BattleField 3, lets just say it was made for the average public player to hop on and play only is the way I would put it. The skill gap was reduced compared to previous BattleFields, and the fact that they didn't even include a spectator option really killed the competitive scene for this game.

We'll see I guess.

If gamers are that fickle to shun any attempt to make a game more accessible for their competitive needs because the required features weren't present at launch, then I'm not sure they're worth trying to impress.

It needs more "features".. it needs more this, that, and a little more of this. The game doesn't feel complete because the idea is not even complete.

clearly, EA wants to get into the competitive side of gaming with these addons, besides, i personally would love to be able to record a game, and watch it after and see how the guy offed me,

Only problem is, the game's too broken to use for competitive play. I peek in on WormholeWizard and 90N1NE-pA live streams to see how they deal with certain things in BF3 and even as absolutely dominant as these two guys are, the games flaws really show when you watch a live stream of someone going at it.

1) Knife animation still does not always work. Got like 5-6 sets of tags yesterday when it should have been close to 10-11.
2) Menu stays on the screen after being rezzed sometimes.
3) Not even going to touch on the crazy bullet spread while suppressed.
4) Disconnected From EA: Something Went Wrong.
5) I actually got stuck on one of those potted plants outside the Metro Station while playing TDM...
6) Hit detection (think it is) is crazy bad sometimes.

I now truly know the meaning of a Love/Hate relationship.

Is it even possible to offer BF3 in a LAN cyber cafe? How would that work? You can't just buy a bunch of copies and hope that your customers don't change the Battlelog passwords on you. EA surely lost out on a lot of sales if they didn't think of that one.

I don't see why competitive players aren't worth trying to impress. It's what keeps games alive, CS, CoD, Quake, Halo, Starcraft, etc etc wink.gif

There is no LAN feature. You need server files for that...

I really don't think it matters when the game is made competitive. There isn't much of a scene now, but that's because these features aren't implemented yet. Once they are added, people are going to try them out. If it's successful at being a competitive game, word will get around and if it becomes popular enough, major leagues and organizations will want to have tournaments. I don't see why people would be like "No! Can't be a competitive game! It's been out too long!"

The only problem you mentioned that really would effect competitive gameplay is the hit-detection. However, this is an issue that is greatly over-exaggerated. Low ping servers generally have less problems with hit detection. I usually play servers with <50ms ping and I never experience hit reg. issues.

Most of the issues you mentioned are things that not everyone experiences, as well. Minus the suppression, of course, which is more of a feature and a useful tactic to use against people. It may be a bit overpowered since the patch, but DICE says they will tweak it once again.

Changing to spectator mode is one way to reduce bloat (inactive players) on a server... if implemented correctly. EA would have to mandate a certain bandwidth allocation for inactive spectators.

If you can switch to spectate when eating or writing an email you can stay on the server and monitor the action. Imagine this, you want to eat a sandwich while playing, so you go to spectate mode. 2 minutes in you realize your squad is getting hammered by a sniper and you are able to rush back in and help them out temporarily, then you go back to spectate to finish your sandwich. thumb.gif

PC gaming has been going downhill in that regard. There are no more games like CSS. One problem i see with BF3 LAN is the huge amount of players you need in order to play.

I wonder why they didn't include this (and some other features) from the beginning...could have saved them a lot of headache and a lot of fans.

If it's for real of course, still nice to see.
