while, The end goal is use it as a combo HTPC/File server/Torrent server. For now, I'm just going to playing around with it. It's one of the new ones with 512MBs of ram! applaud.gif task for tomorrow: pick up a damm sc card reader for my computer so I can load the OS on the thing.

I've just bought a 2nd RasPi. I'm thinking of either building a security cam or an in-car audio system. The real question is if I can get a 500GB laptop HDD to run off 12v

should be easy, just make sure you have the amps. and most 2.5 hdd's use 5v only so just need a step down circuit to provide the +5v.

you could just buy one of these usb adapters, most hdd's like the WD Scorpio blue max out at .95a so it would work fine for 1hdd. Just gotta do a bit of soldering.

I'm currently using xinit and startx. I did use the GUI Login Manager when I was on LMDE. One of the upsides of xinit is you don't have to log out to switch DE/WMs

I use the login GUI manager out of sheer laziness. I should probably switch it to auto-login myself and lock the screen, would be 100x better. In fact, I'll do that right now.

You don't have to with KDM either.

KDE -> switch user -> select the WM/DE
