Fedora for noobs? Really? Unless they've got a jockey like setup and a more friendly attitude towards proprietary media formats (Mpg and so on) it's a distro that would only frustrate people. It may not be "difficult" but for the idiot consumer out there...it would be far too difficult. Of course if people opened up shop to sell and service the distro then jobs would be made and everyone wins...thinking.gif

After using buntu's mini iso...I have to wonder why Arch or any other distro can't at least attempt something like that...maybe Arch for noobs or whatever you'd call it. I mean it was like a Slackware install (ncurses) only with the choice of whether you wanted to pick on choose everything that went on your system or just download a prescribed set of packages. But it would be even better if there was some way to do that with wifi without having remember some setup method or have a book next to you.

Ah wayland...been hearing about that thing for about 2 years now IIRC...and I also thought buntu said they'd have been using it by now. Wonder when the whole "fight" between the two started?

I just had a total conspiracy thought that probably doesn't make sense...but what if Valve is behind the Mir somehow and that they're the final push for Canonical to take buntu off into a separate branch and leave the other without access to all "the cool" stuff like Steam in the future?

No, apparently Valve will stick with X.org. Maybe they're planning well ahead, though. The problem with Mir is that a "real" business like Valve, wouldn't think that making a display server that's just the same as the one that's almost done would be a good idea. I have no clue what Canonical is smoking.

Wait...I'm confused...are you saying Valve is against wayland like nvidia? Or what? headscratch.gif: Maybe I should sleep. redface.gif

if canonical make MIR closed source, i can see a lot of people (including devel teams) leaving. otherwise, i'm fine with it.
rookie1337: good to see someone uses the mini iso, it is so poorly supported.
Ubuntu/Lubuntu/Xubuntu/Gnubuntu are all quite good for newbies, despite what you guys are saying. Just a shame we're swapping to rolling release, nobody knows what is really happening.

Good point, I would recommend ubuntu to the absolute linux novice, but for those who have even a little experience, I too would probably suggest Fedora or something along those lines.
