Has anyone on here tried Mir yet? How are you finding it?

There's a ton of things that aren't going to die off. Even so if you donate say $10 to Kubuntu and they stay around for several more years before dying then it's $10 well spent in my opinion. I've donated maybe $50 or so to Arch over the years and I am now not so sure I like the position that they've been taking things lately and have been trying to find another that I can settle down with, but that's just the way things go, I don't consider it money down the drain as I had quite an enjoyable time with them while it lasted.

Just find a project you enjoy and maybe donate $10/year, a small number but if the whole community were to do such a thing it would make a good impact. At least, towards the lesser funded products, wouldn't make much an impact on something like Ubuntu who has money spilling out of every orifice...

Hmmm...donating to the kernel seems interesting. I guess every $10 could help. Wish I could help in more ways but I'm just an accounting major. redface.gif

Speaking of Mir and all that...anyone heard of when we might see the new display servers? Another 2 years? Or even further off than that?

.... both mir and wayland are in working states right now. Mir should replace x in Ubuntu in less then a year or so and wayland has been working for a while.

But when do they take over and what will the whole deal with Nvidia and AMD be like? I haven't seen much about that recently.

Mir takes over ubuntu soon, wayland takes over whenever xwayland gets to a point when distros start shipping it out. Could be a month, could be years. My guess would be nvidia and amd port drivers only long after wayland and/or mir has been well into place for awhile.

Debian is always a solid choice. What's your level of experience, and how much do you like to tweak?
