I might try Debian too, dad really likes it too, i'm just a nooby noob to linux

He told me to try Xubuntu

Fair bit of warning, debian uses gnome as well. Whar computer was this on? Your sig? The things you are desricibing dont sound like gnome.... It runs quite smooth on my pc (dual boot mint+debian) but whatever it is if you hate gnome there are others. Xubuntu uses xfce. Lubuntu uses lxde. Kubuntu is ubuntu with kde. Mint, debian fedora and tons of others use the most common, gnome.

Not if you use the minimal install. You can easily install Xfce/KDE afterwards.

I think I want to move from something more geeky than Mint.

I tried Archbang and I like it, and going to try Mint Debian (since Archbang is too different I have to accomodate myself). thumb.gif

It really just didn't run well, yes, on my sig rig.

I really don't know much about Linux yet, but my Dad has been working with Linux for over 10 years, and we both dislike Mint.
No idea why, it just ran really choppy, it wasn't smooth at all.

It was almost as if the disk we were running it from was too slow, but we both tried it on our main HDD, mine being an SSD, still ran really bad.

Ill add u as soon as i can. @ white fire- i domt know whats going on there. It runs quite smooth on my (certinly less powerful then yours) rig, so something else might be going on there. But to each his own. @adrudu59-why not just run debian? Its actully very easy, only mod i had to install was wifi and the only thing you need to know and do in the termanal is package management.

Why run Debian when I can run Mint Debian ? biggrin.gif

The Mint team does a great job, and the distro comes with the "Mint touch".

I run arch with i3wm (pure awesomeness there) on my desktop and an old laptop, arch headless on my home server, arch on my brothers old desktop with xfce (cutomized really nicely) and ubuntu in a messed up state on an old desktop, oh and ubuntu with xbmc on an apple tv (g1). Can I join? biggrin.gif
