Eh...compiz...why not try out KDE and E17 if they want "eye candy"?

because kdes a full de with all the included bloat. they could try E17 over compiz, but then again I can't think of a solid reason for going for one over the other since its really to each his own. try both.

Whats the beef with Compiz? It's solid for the effects alone, even more solid as a standalone WM.

I like KDE, but Compiz trounces KWin in nearly every way imaginable.

KDE is a great windows manager but I can't stand the programs it comes with. KDE breaks if you uninstall some of them too witch is really dumb.

KDE is a collection of software. KWin is a display manager.

most des are like that, one of the reason I perfer Xfce, but even it still has some usless stuff, so a plain wm is even better

Not really. Most distros probably ship DE that way, but Arch does a pretty good job of modularising KDE.

In my experience LXDE is by far the most stable. It's also very easy to use. I think I would like KDE more if it was stripped down a bit in most distros.
