Hey, I need to bug you guys again! tongue.gif

I'm upgrading hardware and I just want to make sure all the proper drivers are available without going to 3rd party sources. This is the motherboard I'm getting. I'm planning to start using Arch after the upgrade too. I'll figure out how I want to set it up using my HDD and then install it on the SSD I will be getting. So will USB 3, VIA audio, etc. work right away or is there anything I need to do to set them up?

Also, I'm keeping my GPU so I know how to handle the drivers for that.

Motherboard swaps mean little to nothing unless you build a kernel yourself without extra chipset / cpu stuff that isn't needed, most generic kernels you'll find will have it all mostly enabled by default. USB3 works fine from what I've been able to tell, even though I only have 1 USB3 flash drive and haven't needed/wanted to use it with anything else. SSD's work, but you'll need to add a couple of options via your fstab configuration folder. And the audio shouldn't be a problem, if it's onboard you should be 100% fine, if it isn't a quick google search of the model will turn up results you want.

Awesome, thanks. wink.gif
I've done a lot of reading on the SSD stuff so that shouldn't be a problem.

Eventually I'll find myself building my own kernels, minimal software just isn't enough! I should start building my own hardware too. tongue.gif

I'll add you as soon as I can smile.gif on a road trip ATM so no conputer, just 3.5inch iphone (worst thing I've ever bought)

Hmm... My next poll- GNU/Linux vs Linux. Personally I go for GNU/Linux but the distro maker can decide IMO. In debian, I say GNU/Linux. In arch, just Linux.

Boy I'm late for voting in the last poll I guess. But I would install Steam if I could find a way to install it. The only way to get it I've seen it so far was an .rpm and that's no good for me in Kubuntu.

It's always GNU/Linux, but people are lazy and for the most part don't care so just say Linux or *nix.

Take a look inside the RPM or if you're too lazy ... link

Not necessarily tongue.gif *nix usually refers to Unix-Like which pretty much canvases a huge portion of pretty much anything we do tongue.gif

And take a look at my post again, I edited it with the .deb for steam, from steam.

Kubuntu supports RPMs.

RPM compatibility is part the "Linux Standard Base" (LSB) of which Debian/Ubuntu are compliant.
