How about the "Working" OS...............
Hi, guys. Just wondering if anyone of you knows how to make that tearing go away with the open source Radeon drivers? With the proprietary ones, it's just a tickbox you can click on to make that happen, but their is no nice GUI for the open source ones. Any ideas?

Dumb question, but what is tearing? Also what distro are you running and what desktop environment (eg GNOME2, Unity, KDE, etc)?

Arch Linux 64-bit with Xfce 4.10. The open source Radeon drivers from their official repository. Tearing is when I drag a window and it "flickers", you know? Think no v-sync! It also happens when I watch a video in MPlayer.

Ahh yes. KDE does have some settings built in for that, but I don't know about Xfce, with that you may need to edit the Xorg config file manually. My expertise is more on the server side than on desktops though so I'm afraid I can't really be of much help.

That's okay, I've been searching the web for an answer all day, all I find are forum posts by people with similar issues, no solutions. frown.gif

It might be a client side thing, which means the DE would define it. Does mplayer not have any options there? I think VLC does (though I could be wrong).
