Ok, try this:

1) Boot your computer into safe/recovery mode
2) Insert a USB stick into your computer
3) Run dmesg. At the end it should say something like:
Code:
[596357.610604] scsi 33:0:0:0: Direct-Access SanDisk Cruzer Edge 8.02 PQ: 0 ANSI: 0 CCS
[596357.610867] sd 33:0:0:0: Attached scsi generic sg1 type 0
[596357.613151] sd 33:0:0:0: [sdb] Attached SCSI removable disk
[596357.724200] sd 33:0:0:0: [sdb] 7856127 512-byte logical blocks: (4.02 GB/3.74 GiB)
[596357.725990] sd 33:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present
[596357.725997] sd 33:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
[596357.729957] sd 33:0:0:0: [sdb] No Caching mode page present
[596357.729960] sd 33:0:0:0: [sdb] Assuming drive cache: write through
[596357.732652] sdb: sdb1
[596397.805715] sdb: detected capacity change from 4022337024 to 0
The important part is the sdb piece. Yours might have a different letter for the b.
4) Run (adjust the b in sdb below to match what you got in step 3):
Code:
mkdir -p /mnt
mount /dev/sdb1 /mnt
cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log /mnt/
cp /var/log/syslog /mnt
umount /mnt

That should put the two files on your USB stick. You should then be able to upload them from another computer.

Gives me the same results no matter the file name.

cause you are not telling it to put anything in the file...

try sudo cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log >> xorg.log.txt

that should create a file in your home directory call xorg.log.txt.

or you can use the direction in the above post to copy it over to a usb drive.

Believe it or not, but still permission denied. Doesn't really matter I guess.

Believe it or not, but still permission denied. Doesn't really matter I guess.

just out of curiosity, try:

cd ~

then run those commands, make sure you are in your home directory first, but with sudo it shouldn't matter, it would write it to any directory.

I assume you mean: sudo cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log >> xorg.log.txt

that command?
