When dealing with SAN/NAS on a large scale (may HDD's) you will find it beneficial to purchase through a vendor such as HP/DELL, especially when you get that alert that a drive has failed. smile.gif

I was going to say either ZFS on OpenIndiana/Illumian or mdraid on any Linux distro, but then...

If you are barely familiar with hardware, have never built a PC, and FreeNAS is over your head. Go with a Drobo, or pay somebody who knows what they are doing set it up.

ZFS on FreeBSD is the way forward in my opinion. Oracle are doing their damnedest to ruin Solaris frown.gif
