1156, sata 3, and an SSD

Thread Starter
Finally gave in and ordered an SSD. About time right?

So it's spec'd to work with sata 3 and I'm looking for an answer. Is it worth running the SSD in sata 3 through the marvell sata 3 controller (no built in sata 3 for p55) or just use the chipsets sata 2 connections? Can I expect to use the SSD to its full potential through the 3rd party controller?

mobo is P7P55D-e PRO btw. not the tpower.

So many people were asking similar questions, that tomshardware did like a 10 page something report on it.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/sata-6gbps-performance-sata-3gbps,3110.html

To summarize:

The SATA 2 connection will bottleneck it in "wost case scenario", but in 90% of real world situations the SATA 2 performs identical to SATA 3. Both SATA 2 and SATA 3 see identical boot times on Sata 3 SSD's.

Only in large file transfers and benchmarks will the SATA 2 hold you back.
