3x GTX480 vs 2x GTX580 Which one is better?

3x GTX480 vs 2x GTX580
Which one is better? Currently I've got 3x GTX480

In my place there's a very active forum that sells & buys. If all goes well I could get this by topping up around $150.00+-.
Should I change it? I've got a buyer that offered me a good price for just 1 unit of the GTX480.
If I sell 1 then I plan to sell all(3x). With the money I could just get 2x GTX580.
Needing the advice on this: 3x GTX480 comparing with 2x GTX580

Considering the software that comes with the hardware. Meaning the drivers & etc.
Also if I don't do this then I'll jump to 2x GTX680.
If it's a 2 series jump then I need to top up about $250-$300+-.
GTX480 is gonna have a price drop in about 1-2 weeks when the GTX680 is gonna release. Also much harder to sell...

I would vote for 2x680.
680 has 3 times the shader count of 580, and games get more and more shader-dependant.

If it's going to cost you the same either way, I'd go for the pair of GTX 580s. If you look at the Guru3D GTX 580 SLI review and tri-SLI GTX 480 review, you get pretty similar performance (they use the same testbed on both, just different drivers). The big difference is that the GTX 580s will run cooler and draw less power. Theoretically, the GTX 480s should have the advantage in minimum framerates though.

Of course, the GTX 680 will be much better, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with the GTX 580. It's still a great GPU.

Shaders aren't the same across architectures though. The GTX 680s are great cards, but the shaders in the GTX 680 are weaker than the shaders in the GTX 580 and, as such, you can't directly compare them. The GTX 680 will definitely outperform the GTX 580, but it's not twice as powerful.
