What Cpu should I get?

Thread Starter

I am doing my first build soon and I can't decide between Intel and AMD. I have a max price limit of about $700, but I already have an SSD and a case. I am thinking of a Gpu about 250$ to $300 and I don't know about the PSU, because I do know the full build soon. I can also, buy the GPU at a later date. But, which CPU would be better for a first build on a budget. I would do gaming( trying to do good in BF3), web browsing and maybe fraps recording of gaming. Thanks for your help in advance.

2500k all the way. Best bang for the buck out there, especially if you are just gaming. it doesn't even come close to bottlenecking my two 7970's. Both GPU's run at 100% smile.gif

The 2500K is definitely an awesome processor, and it's pretty cheap. Aim for an i5-2500K if you can afford it (realistically you should be able to get the rest of the build together for pretty cheap).

^ This, or the 2550K. You simply cannot go wrong with it. Pair it with an Asus, Gigabyte, or Asrock board. If you live close to a Microcenter the 2550K is only $149 with the facebook coupon (+ tax of course).

$149 for an i5 2550k from Microcenter is by far the best deal out there. If you live near one, buy it.

Edit: Is this deal gone already? Looks like an SSD deal now
