i7 3930k, liquid cooled gtx 680 build - Page 2

Thanks for the tip!. Closest store is 6 hours or so away though:/ Either way processor and everything else is gonna be here tomorrow so I will just be glad to have it at that point.

Also got the 680 and the antec 620 cooler that I will use for it today. Currently have the 680 listed in my build under my username. Don't have the mount for the cooler yet, beside probably wouldn't worry about that until the new system came anyways.

I'll try and post some pics up to get rid of all the boring text floating around in this build thread tongue.gif

Edit well this threads gonna be a fail for the weekend. No idea where my camera is so I will have to use the webcam for the build pics. Will have better final pics Sunday when the room mate is back.

Great Rig/Project, congrats! Did you have any experience in Watercooling before this project? Do you recommend it, in terms of noise reduction?
I have 2500K@4,3Ghz with Sychte Mine Rev. B cooler, 2x GTX570 Inno3d Hawk with non-reference coolers in SLI mode @850/2050 clocks, 2x 120mm side and top fans on my Coolermaster Storm Scout and the hole rig makes a lot of noise, specially while gaming. I am happy with the overclocks, just not so happy with the overall noise...but I have no experience with WC, even though I know quite a bit about Hardware.

Cheers

Not too much tbh. I had a coolermaster water cooler in my 2.66 duo core build back in 2007. Other than that, this is the only water cooler I have used. It was okay but I was still a noob to pc building at the time and didn't even know what overclocking was :X

Anyways I upgraded to a i5 2.66ghz 750 build (was borrowed from the rents) about 6 months ago and used it up until this build. I had a evo 212 plus coolermaster air cooler and had the cpu oc'd to 3.8ghz. I thought "who the hell needs water cooling with something like this around?"

Well first off, the temps weren't nearly as good as my current h100, not to mention we are comparing a quad core to a 6 core hyper-threaded processor. Secondly it does a amazing job at sucking every piece of heat that cpu throws out and putting it directly out of the case.

When I was running prime with my OC on this build, I was getting max temps around 80. And yet the fan that blows air out of the top back of my system (right next to the cpu) was blowing out air so cool that I felt like I just cut the system on.

Since I had only one fan on the evo 212, of course this is slightly louder, but that's only at full load under prime. Realistically anything I play never revs it up and it stays pretty near damn silent while keeping my cpu extremely cool and keeps my case as cool as it would be if it was off.

If all your worried about is noise level, not sure if I would recomend paying for it. But it still stays basically just as quiet while giving me extremely cool temps.

Thanks for your answer, M8. smile.gif I noticed you used 2 closed WC loop kits (Corsair H100 and the Antec H20 620) for your CPU and GPU. Did you have to buy anything more for the GPU or that was enough? What scared me id the enormous amount of components we have to buy to make a proper custom loop. I have two gtx570s, do you believe I would have to buy two Antec H20 620 coolers, one for each GPU?
Probably I would have to buy lots of expensive and hard to mount custom components with silent fans to be able to get less noise than I already have, because every review I read about those two factory made WC loops say that the noise is pretty much the same has normal air coolers (like you said), correct?

Cheers

Sorry for the late response man.

But yea, guess you missed it but I had to buy a custom mount by dwood to be able to mount the 620 to the gpu. Also had to pick up some heatsinks for the vrm and vram. Not that big of a deal, simply apply them with the thermal paste included (with the heatsinks) in the right areas and your good to go.

But if your rocking 2 570s you might just want to go with a custom loop. The only reasons I didn't bother with one is my lack of experience plus the fact that I was throwing $3k into a build. Didn't want to short out anything. Also the fact that I wouldn't be able to stick in a quad rad in my case (if I was going for a custom loop you better bet that I am going big or going home tongue.gif)

Anyways I have been doing a lot of research on it and it doesn't seem to terribly bad at all. Plus it makes your system look soo much sexier. As for me having 2 closed loops, its cool and all but it doesn't really matter. What matters is the amount of space on the radiator you have to dissipate heat. Aka if I had a single loop with a tripple rad (since I have a double in one loop, and a single in another) it would actually be better at getting lower temps and probably slightly quieter.

I plan on getting another 680 to sli in the future and depending on if I can figure out a place to put a decent sized rad in my case, I will defiantly be upgrading to a closed loop.

So If you really don't want to mess with anything, pre closed loops are the way to go I guess. But bear in mind if you plan on getting a mount for your 570s from dwood, you will still have to do some slight modifications either way.

Thanks again for your help.
So if I go with a custom loop way for the cpu and 2 gpu´s I have to buy a triple radiator, at least. I much do you believe I will have to spend for everything and have a low noise cooling system, mininal?

I am not the expert in these matters but I do know that a tripple rad for a overclock cpu and possibly 2 overclock gpus is probably gonna be pushing it. That is unless you really aren't worried about temp changes as much as noise. You will probably want a quad rad. You might be able to get by with a tripple one, again idk I'm personally not experienced in the matters, at least not yet tongue.gif

But if my logic is correct, the 4 fans on a quad rad alone will never have to rev up too high, therefore it will probably be quieter when compared to just your 2 gpu fans alone.

Post up in the liquid cooling section for so help, but first I suggest searching around on here and on youtube for tutorials. Those alone might answer all your questions.
