^ I know I am going to get teased for this, but I must say that MapleStory is a very addicitve game. The music in it is extremely catchy and the monsters are really interesting. Though, it is quite hard to get very good items. It is one of those games that makes grinding and killing monsters in search of rare items fun. It looks good with beautiful 2D backdrops and sprites and the classes are very varied as well.

Can't beat classics.

Gemstone IV

I think it was calculated that it takes 100 days of play time on average to cap out. Tight knit community with some people that've been playing for decades. Don't pay attention to the sourpusses though.

Dragonrealms

Like Gemstone with a different world setting, different combat, and a UO-ish skill advancement system (use it to boost it). Though this came first obviously. Community is better in DR, even though both trump any of the current fads in MMO's by parsecs.

If you can dig text, they're awesome. If not, feh.

tera looked interesting but i lost intrest after i found out it was subscription based, i know most mmo's are but i have never got an mmo subscription and i never will, im not the biggest fan of free to play either but i do like the sub free model guild wars has which is kind of like the best of both

i know you don't like where gw2 is going but i think you should give it a try when the trial eventually comes out a few months after release, you might enjoy it

I'm curious as to why you think grenades can't be part of a fantasy setting.

They can be, I'm just more of a fan of medieval fantasy settings that's all. No explosives!

I used to love text based games, as I could conjure up anything I wanted, now, with all these amazing visuals, I find it hard to go back to text based MMO's!

Tera online looks nice, not a big fan of the silly races and outrageous armour though! All that stuff ruins immersion for me, loads of idiots running round with silly names and revealing armour, just not my thing.

I may get a mount and blade MMO mod or something, that's more my thing. I do enjoy magic classes though, just never a fan of guns unless the whole game is based around guns & swords like Final Fantasy.

Games like World of Warcraft don't suit it, regardless of their lore and previous RTS games!

For me, explosives have to fit the setting... Knights, armour and... What?! Explosives? Nah! Sounds too immature. Attracts ridiculous people to play the game that enjoy explosives n' that sort of thing.

Never liked RocketPG's in fps either, cause to me, they're not really tactical or fun, just unnecessary and annoying.

C'mon, y'all must admit it is more annoying being killed with explosives than a well placed shot with a rifle? You think, oh man, nice shot... But when it's a rocket launcher, you go mental, and think to yourself "yeah cause it takes real skill to fire a rocket at the ground near my feet rather than to shoot me in my face from more than 10 feet away!"

Anyway back to MMO's, my friend has offered to scroll of resurrect me on WoW so I can join him with pvp etc... Not sure whether it's a good idea or not considering how bored that game makes me -_-! Oh and, that there's no class customisation anymore, can't do hybrid classes, have to stick to what they say, may as well not have a talent tree! Totally pointless.

Youre rather swinging for the fence looking for something that fits everything you want and don't want. Guns and knights in armor is much less fantasy than reality. However, we all have our tastes. I personally liked DAOC; a pvp-centric fantasy MMO. It's quite old and the servers have been consolidated due to sub number decline. It's a great choice for a pvp lover.

Uh....grenades and smaller/compact explosives first came on the scene somewhere between the 12th and 14th centuries. Guns and such came later, yes - but crude explosives were being experimented with constantly.

In other words...smack dab in the middle of the Middle Ages - right along side those knights in armor atop horses.
