Prime95 would be your best bet for testing stability.

Prime95 blend for a while, then game for a bit (all on stock frequency). If it's all good then start OC'ing (If your mobo can handle 160W plus for the CPU with proper cooling).

if you unlock it you really caint know what the temps are. mine will not even read right as an x4, but as an x6 the temps are really messed up.
I use Hwmonitor to look at my temperatures and cpu-z to look at my processor settings such as multiplier, bus speed, corespeed etc.

EDIT: forgot to mention that unlocked processors won't show temperature

Stress testing, Run IntelBurnTest for a short term and Prime95 (or if your like me F@H*) for long term. If it bluescreens or stops responding it's unstable. Then, try to up the voltage a bit, if still unstable, lock one core and try with five cores, do so untill you pick out which one (or two) are unstable and then permanently lock them

*Note: I use the Folding@home client over Prime 95 because it is extremely picky and if it is even the slightest bit unstable, it will throw the Work Unit out and let you know

Ninja'd, and for CPU temps, mine show up in a program called CPU Cool you can download it here

You really want to stay under 60c
