Just got my hands on a sabertooth 990 board. Can I use the black edition Chips ? Or just the fx series? Or what else do you recommend?

With 990 FX (I assume it has an AM3+ slot) you can use any AM3 or AM3+ cpu, ie Phenom ii x4 960T, 1090T, 980 BE, FX4100, Fx8150 e.t.c.

I have a 1090T, which is very good, but I would recommend 960T, a quad core that can be unlocked to a hexacore.

Or bulldozer (FX series)

You can use any AM3 or AM3+ CPU in that board.

The one thing I found out with the Sabertooth 990fx ,is that if run a non FX Bulldozer chip and you have ram over 1600mhz it will down clock the ram. The bios will not give you the option to change it either. I placed a AMD 975 BE chip in my board and it would only allow me to select up to 1600mhz in bios when I use 1866mhz ram. When I put my current FX 6100 chip in it now has the option to select a higher ram speed all the way to 2400mhz..That's just something to keep in mind if you want to add faster ram. This chip outscored the 975BE in 3dmark by over 3k points.

Any AM3/AM3+ cpu should work fine.

I don't need to show you the scores you think I just made it up please. I have bench marked the chips listed below and the best score of the bunch was the 1055t with over 19k points. I changed that chip out to my FX6100 because the 1055t didn't really like overclocking that well. The older x4 maybe be better single threaded processors than the fx chips, but overclocking is much better with the fx series IMHO.
