Core i5 760 or .... Best help will be rewarded

Thread Starter
Am building a oil cooled mod & might not put anything better than a gtx 580 in there at best. Was thinking of 2x 6970's but cant find any good comparisons on it against cards like gtx 580 sli which am familiar with since i own those in another machine.. I know 6970's are no match for those but like i said am familiar with the performance of those cards cause i own them. Anyways i was wondering should i got 1156 socket or 1155. Of course the 1156 socket will be cheaper & i'd just go with that but how does the Core i5 760 hold up against say a core i7 920 or 950?

This will be a gaming rig running on a 1920x1200 monitor. I want decent frames a 60 in games like bf3.

I really really appreciate and tips or links to help me decide. thanks alot guys..
Fyi. i will be doing a little Oc'ing on either chip i decide on

1156 isn't the greatest platform. I wouldn't really recommend it if you would like 60 FPS constantly on games such as BF3, but the overclocks that I have seen are respectable, so I'm not entirely sure, but It still wont suffice for high end gaming if you ask me.

If you are able to still find 1366 CPU's and they are at a cheaper price point I would recommend it for SLI/Crossfire, however 1155 is mainstream right now and there are 2500k's all over the place right now.

Or you could wait out for Ivy bridge, but those may be more expensive.

You will run anything at 60fps with that chip at that resolution. 1156 were and are still awsome, i just changed my 750 for a 3930k and i can't really see any difference other then when im encoding. I have 2x6970 and my 750 never bottleneck them, i ran mine for the last 2 years at 4,1Ghz and it was more then happy to feed the gpus, Un less you have a 120hz Monitor or have 3+ eyefinity you wont see any difference going from 1156 to 1155 to 2011... gaming wise
