Try turning the phone off and turning it back on.
If the phone doesn't activate within an hour, then I would go back down to the Verizon store to get a new SIM card to see if that fixes the problem. If you still get the same message I'd be looking to get it replaced with another Rezound.
Also you might try popping the back off to see if the SIM card is inserted properly and all the way in. Check for any damaging to the SIM card along with the gold box on the back of your SIM card.
Also if the store didn't inform you they're doing their scheduled maintenance on a few areas across the states. So, that may be way too. But since it's practically not reading your SIM, it's probably your phone.
