Windows Backup crashing/reseting machine & changing boot order - Help!

Thread Starter
I have a Win 7 64 machine in my sig.

3 HDD's.

SATA 0 - Main OS drive, showing up in Win as Disk 0

SATA 1 - Storage drive, showing up in Win as Disk 2, but previously listed as Disk 1 prior to installing SATA 2 drive.

SATA 2 - Backup drive, showing up in Win as Disk 1

Booting up, POST lists drives in this weird order:

SATA 0
SATA 2
SATA 1
SATA 3
SATA 4
SATA 5

Within BIOS, drives are also listed 0, 2, 1, 3, 4, 5.

I have tried formatting and deleting the volume of each of the two extra drives and reinstalling them each one at a time. I have also tried to switch the Backup to the SATA 1 position and the Storage drive to SATA 2 to see if the order correctly aligns with no luck.

I'm not positive, but I think this is causing an issue when I run Windows Backup that makes Windows crash, and upon this happening it then screws with the boot order and removes my OS drive from the first priority causing a stall at POST requiring a boot into BIOS to correct the boot priority.

OR

Windows Backup is experiencing an issue, crashing/resetting the computer which results in maybe SATA 0 not being seen momentarily during the reset and POST cycle and so it has no drive to boot from and hangs in POST.

Happy to provide any other info I may not be including that would be helpful.

Any ideas?

Just set your OS drive as boot priority 1 and disable all others if possible.

That's not an option. It lets me select one of the drives to be the boot drive but I can't remove the others from the list.

I may have a more serious problem. It seems whenever I get a crash it is during Windows Backup. A crash occurs during back up and then the boot order gets messed up. But it's not a hard crash, it's like a reset has occurred and then I come back to it hung in POST due to the boot sequence being messed up.
