Cross Firing for the first time

Thread Starter
Well, like the title says, I'm going to be Xfiring for the first time soon.

I'll be running two HD6950s, and I just want to know of any risks or anything that I may face when I do it, or is it basically the same as running a single GPU?

I've been told on the Power Supply boards that I'm fine for power with my current PSU (CoolerMaster Silent Pro 700W) so that's not an issue, but I just want to be aware of anything else to watch for.

1) Make sure to plug it in the appropriate PCI-e slot.
2) Make sure to attach the crossfire bridge.
3) Make sure to power the second card.

Others can chime in.

Installing CrossfireX:
  1. Install your second card on the second PCI-E slot from the top of the board (the PCI-EX8 slot for your mobo)
  2. Grab your CrossfireX bridge and plug one end of the bridge to the top card's CrossfireX finger. Plug the other end into the other card's CrossfireX finger. If your card has two CrossfireX fingers, install them both on the left fingers to ensure CrossfireX will work.
  3. Plug in the power connectors from your power supply. If needed, use the Molex Legacy 4-Pin to PCI-E 6-Pin converters that should be included with your cards.
  4. Once in Windows 7, you can go into the Catalyst manager to make sure that CrossfireX has been properly installed.

Ill tell you this dont expect every game to use it well. When it is utilized it is awsome , but i have some games that i get better performance when i disable it. SWTOR is the main one but i think its the crappy engine and coding. You will enjoys crossfire. I also had to uninstall and reinstall my drivers.
Worse than crack.

I dont think it matters slot wise. But try to put some space between them so they cool better.
