Please help me find new headphones

State your budget! (Set an absolute maximum or give a relative maximum with + x amount if it will be amazingly better).

I'd love to stay under $100 (before tax/shipping), though that is somewhat flexible. $150 would be the absolute top end that I can go at this time, but it would have to be something that wowed me a great deal.

State your music tastes

I listen to almost anything. A lot of 80s metal (pop/hair and heavy), 90s Rock, some more modern Rock. Whatever genre Marilyn Manson falls in (though he would be one of the only bands like his that I listen to I think), Classical (Handel's Water Music is one of my absolute favorite pieces), Ska if the feeling catches me, very little Rap, though I do enjoy hearing the bass in my music (not everything, though; Good Sound >>> Pounding Bass)

State what perks are highly desirable (low impedance, heavy bass, excellent for gaming etc..)

Great sound, sturdy design (I have 3 kids, 2 under 4, that like to be everywhere daddy is), Comfort (I cannot stress this enough, I wear headphones for long stretches). If there was the ability to perform a documented aftermarket mod to improve the sound, I would be willing to sacrifice some on sound for greater comfort. I am not against modding what I have, I am a tinkerer at heart.

State what products you already have and are planning on using with your recommended item (state whether you have an amp if you're looking for headphones with high impedance for example)

Mostly with my iPhone (3GS, though that will change sometime in the near future to either a 4S or an Android if a game I play comes to Android), though also with my computer. I currently am running onboard sound, but planning on buying a Xonar sound card once my new case/desk is complete.

I do not currently own a headphone amp, though I am planning on buying a CMoy kit sometime very soon. I would prefer decent sound without an amp, but will put the amp higher on my to-buy list if necessary.

State how you are going to use the item (e.g. out-and-about, at the gym, at home, PC / console, gaming, music etc). The more detail in this, the better.

Working in my yard or working/gaming at my computer. I do not play games where sound plays a huge role (my "current" game is Anarchy Online, if that says anything) on my PC. I play newer games on my Xbox, but I'm not against gaming on my PC. On days when I work from home (usually once or twice a month), I spend all day with headphones on listening to music.

Because of this, I would prefer a closed headphone so that I am not bothering those around me and am able to hear my music when outside and there happens to be a breeze. Again, I am flexible on this for the right set.

State where you live and offer some sites that are known for having good prices / being reputable so we can help recommend you products in your country's currency (like Amazon or ebay).

I live in Arizona. I'm willing to buy from Amazon (or eBay, if I can find a good deal from a reputable seller), but I try to be a hands-on buyer where I like to try out a product before I buy. I can forgo this with the right recommendation, but I thought I had the right phones the last time I bought some and they turned out, while good sounding, to be quite uncomfortable to wear for longer periods of time. I have been looking at Frys Electronics, Best Buy (not the greatest place for good cans, I know), and Guitar Center. There have been some that caught my eye at Guitar Center, but I am looking forward to seeing if they are recommended. Some are well reviewed at head-fi, others aren't or are not reviewed at all.

Other Information

My most recent purchase was a set of Sennheiser HD 203's. They sound really good (though that may be because I was coming from a Creative Fatal1ty headset that is a couple of years old, not sure), but they are very uncomfortable after 60-90 minutes. I was outside working in my yard for 7 hours on Sunday, so you can imagine what my head felt like. I've been looking to modify them, but so far my search has yielded no results. I don't think it will be worth my time to recable them (the cord is something like 10 feet long) if they're just going to make my head hurt every time I put them on. That, and I'm not sure what the quality of my generic 24AWG speaker wire will be like.

heres a great resource for those bitten by the audio bug, while they may not be the end-all and be-all there is a ton of great information available and ive purchased from a few sellers of used equipment here and had good luck.

I've browsed both Head-fi and here looking for recommendations. I hadn't looked at their For Sale section prior to now, but it does little to tell me what I'm looking for unfortunately.

I'll keep looking. Right now I've been looking at AKG M 80 Mk II, AKG K240, Shure SRH440, perhaps something from Koss...

Too many choices...hence my posting.

Well, after doing some side-by-side comparisons at Guitar Center today, I've narrowed down my choices considerably:

Audio-Technica ATH-M45
Shure SRH440
Beyerdynamic DT 770 (Pro-80 version)

They Beyerdynamics are outside the price range that I had set for myself, but I REALLY like them.
