Is it possible to combine drives of different sizes into a larger drive of equal size?

Thread Starter
Hello,

Hello, Im interested in combining HDDs so that I can get larger sizes that are not of the same size.

Eg. I want to combine a 500gb hdd and a 750gb hdd into one drive that can be seen in windows as 1.25TB

is it possible? if so how do I do it? So far I haven't seen anyone talk about it and Im not even sure if it can be done.

Thanks

You will max out at 1TB. In RAID 0

Yes. JBOD or various non-RAID methods. Each have their own requirements, benefits, and disadvantages.

Thanks Duckie, Read about JBOD in another thread, however by the way it was worded, it didn't seem like it, so I checked just in case. I'd +rep you but I cant XD

Dynamic disk? Spanned disk?
raid 0 takes the lowest capacity drive then multiply it by how many drives in the array,
so in your case, 500gb x 2 = 1tb

Take care with moving Dynamic/Spanned drives on different motherboards/platforms as you will/might lose data.
