1050W not enough for yesterday's HW? - Page 2

I got this PSU a week ago! (second VGA arrived yesterday)

It had a strong smell after first powering up, but i thought the initial smell is gone by now.
Maybe it isnt, and all i can smell is the PSU's first "burn in" with proper load?

But i'm mostly worried about how hot is it. How hot is it should be normally? Sadly i dont have a thermometer which i could attach to it.
The PSU cover is clearly not in the 80-90C range, but not as cool as i would like to.
However, these HWs are power hogs, so maybe i'm just expecting too much.

Tried all PSU power calculator things on the internet, and all tells me that its between somewhere 700 and 950W, at full load.

I'll run it for a couple of days and we'll see what happens.

(i also thought of the new VGA at full load, but never ever had one before, that had a smell while being new o.O )

I would imagine full load on that kind of setup would be less than 800w total. Speculating... thinking.gif

RMA would be very complicated and TBH i'm not sure it's faulty. But not sure it's all good, either.

That smell could be because it's still new, and it just got a bigger load yesterday?

Ok, i tested it with one VGA removed, and it's far less hot and there's zero smell.

It looks like as powering the 2 VGAs is too much for it o.O

Any suggestions? Can this all be because the PSU is just a week old?

I ran the pc all night long with both vgas at 100% load and there were burnt smell in the room in the morning.

What the hell is going on?

I should've bought a single 7970.

If you just bought it and it was defective on arrival, you will get new one within 30 days. After 30 days, they will try to repair it and if they fail, send you a refurb.
Normally if you just bought it, you have to do the RMA via the place where you bought it.
