RAID 0 REALLY worth it? - Page 5

Thread Starter
Definatly gunna go for it, only depending on $$.

Gunna get a 2.5 enclosure + 2.5HDD though for when I get the X360 since it won't let you store anything cept music on CD's. Gotta get it off somehow.

Plus I need a place to store the important stuff on my HDD before formating for RAID.

how often does that happen really? Do you think hard drive fans are worth it, in that they prevent failure/your whole raid0 going bye bye?

I just ordered two of the barracuda 320gb perpendicular drives and was considering running a raid configuration?

Happens very rarely. I wrote a little FAQ about it with grossly exaggerated numbers. I have not heard anyone's RAID array fail yet.

In a case with good airflow, yuo won't need HDD fans.

Just get those two Seagates, and RAID them. As always, make backups (you should do that anyways with a single disk also)

Yep...Will be using a 250gb Seagate ATA 100 as my backup. Won't hold everything, but, it'll hold what I'd HATE to lose just fine.

Yeah I reccomend getting that extra 160gig pook, you will notice a huge performance increase. Thing is, it will total 320GB but you never actually want to use it all up, as windows can become extremely slow once you get down a few GB of free space. I mean I have XP on my 160GB once i used up around 120GB (75%), windows became very slow. Judging by this I would say only use a max of 75% of your HDD's, that leaves 240GB to use fully.

Anyone else notice this too? I think its because it becomes more and more fragged up after 75% usage and also you are using the inner tracks of you HDD more.

No way is it. I have never had any spyware, adware or virus on this PC, it is clean (ok I had one virus, but i got rid of it).

I do a scan every 2 weeks, consisting of Ad-aware pro 6.0, NOD32, Spyware doctor and i very rarely get more than 5 objects on all tests and i get no viruses.
