HTC One X on ATT vs Galaxy Nexus on Verizon vs Other Options

An interesting idea I've been having as of late...

My current ATT contract is just about up, I currently have an iPhone 4 and I'm very seriously considering coming over to the more droid side of things.. and also considering a switch of carrier to Verizon...

So to start with..vis a vis the iphone

1. I hate the "Home key does EVERYTHING" thing, my home key on my 4 seems to only work about 50% of the time and its agitating for multitasking and things of that nature

2. Not really tied into any apps, the only app I dont think I can get on android is the Xbox Live one...I can live without that.. I have about 200 AAC-protected songs but I can fix that too

3. Not seeing what the iPhone 5 could conceivably -do- to keep me with iOS, most likely im guessing it will have a better screen, A5X processor and LTE

4. All the iphone to iphone things are theoretically nice.. Except i know all of 2 people with iphones, and one of them jailbroke hers so you cant actually use iMessage or Facetime... So yeah

Now then the problems I've had that leading me to consider switching carriers:

1. ATT is the only carrier it seems where im not even on the map to get LTE in the forseeable future, Sprint announced before 2013 and Verizon already has it in our area

2. The two different stores I've went to have not been very friendly or helpful the minute i mention i dont really want the iPhone 4S and instead want an Android phone, when i tried to discuss how upset I've been with speeds one of them said I must be a bandwidth hog (Which isnt true... I dont go anywhere near 2-3gbs and they have NO reason to be throttling me) in a slightly snobby accusatory manner.... Out of frustration I walked to a Verizon booth and they treated me a heck of a lot friendlier and nicer...

3. Verizon does offer a nice discount since Im a FiOS subscriber

On the phone side of things:

- My primary things are screen, battery life, good signal quality, good call quality, and nice overall performance, I generally watch videos on it, look up stuff, and listen to music on it, and of course play games on the thing, I do more texting than calling these days, what calling I do is Skype

- I've looked into doing unlocked, but I know i cant just pop the sim from my iPhone 4 into it and have it work, meaning i gotta get a new SIM card, Where the heck i do so I dont know, Also its pretty pricey...

- The One X is definitely appealing, Except for the fact its been kneecapped to 16gb for the ATT Version... I can live with 16gb with careful management but I'd definitely be more comfortable with 32gb.. Also I havnt seen the ATT version pictured in anything besides white, and I personally do not want a white phone

- The Galaxy Nexus is also very appealing, Except its only 16gb unlocked as well, But if i get it on Verizon I get 32gb which is nice

- I looked at the Note, Its quite nice, But the one i played with crashed hard and basically died in my hands(I couldnt get it to come back alive, it seems to have gotten stuck in an infinite reboot loop where it wasnt booting into the Android OS) at the store which didnt leave me with a feeling of comfort.. Also I really am unsure I like the size, its just a little "too" big to me

- Not big on Windows Phone's interface... So thats out, I admire it and appreciate the simplicity, but its not for me

I need some input from other people here though.. I'm really just getting burned out looking at this stuff

I have a Galaxy SII running ICS and it's awesome... however I played with a Galaxy Nexus in a Bell Store (Canadian) and it was ALOT faster running ICS than my SGSII.

I LOVE the stock ICS... The One X looks amazing but the Galaxy Nexus... very nice phone!

Engadget posted a review of HTC One X and a separate review on Sense 4.0 on ICS. I think HTC One X looks good so far and it has Gorilla Glass, Galaxy Nexus doesn't.

You should watch the videos and form your own opinion if you want to get the HTC One X or Galaxy Nexus.

You should watch the videos and form your own opinion if you want to get the HTC One X or Galaxy Nexus.

Been scouring over the reviews, the One X looks like the device for me....

the 16gb limitation is kinda whats hurting it for me :/ Even though im not sure i really use 32gb (I have a 32gb iPhone 4 right now, the big reason for me to go to the 32 was i used to have a lot of videos loaded on it, now i have a tablet so i honestly dont need all the videos loaded up on the thing all the time, they can go on my tablet which has SD cards and thus infinite storage) that being said my music (which i DO want on the device)currently weighs in at around 11gb, plus around 2gb of apps and 2gb of photos (Which is because i really dont delete photos from the device), Now while i know i can cut down the music a bit, im not sure how much i can pare it down.. My Transformer is a 16gb tablet and it has around 12gb that is usable(After the OS and such), Im assuming the One X is going to be similar from the start in terms of capacity...

My tablet's internal storage currently has about 8gb free right now, mostly chewed up by 3gb of apps, i know about a gig of which is Dungeon Defenders however (God thats a HUGE game!) I think the question im trying to figure out is if i can actually live with 8gb of music(Which i did), 1gb for pictures, and 2gb for apps or if im going to feel tight and constrained from day 1...

Or perhaps i just limit my music even heavier, Do i really listen to 8gb of music all at once on the phone? With things like Pandora do i -need- to have access to THAT much music on the go all the time unless im travelling (and thus can simply use my tablet to listen to music from an SD card)

The only reason i can figure for slashing the memory in half for the LTE one is that because they needed the space for the LTE radio they HAD to limit the storage to 16gb to keep the cost where carriers want it, and for me, thats a stupid tradeoff, we dont have LTE here from ATT and it looks like we're not getting it for the forseeable future...probubly not before another phone upgrade at least

I'd easily plunk down $300 for the One X 32gb Tegra 3 non-LTE one... But I guess it isnt something ATT wants to do.. Oh and apparently the LTE one is only going to be in white -sigh- Well i can live with the color i guess... i just will be sticking a case on it so i dont have a phone that screams "Ooooh im expensive, Steal me!"

I did however find out the international One X uses a micro SIM, So i can indeed pop it out of my iphone and right into the One X and have fun...But $700 is a bit of a punch to the gut....

Sorry for all the typing, Thinking out loud to an extent

After all that you just said, it doesn't sound like you actually really like the One X. I know you mentioned the Galaxy Nexus. I think it's a great contender and might be the one for you. Here are some reasons the Galaxy Nexus is a great phone:

-Stock Android (ICS in this case). I have never liked the Email apps on HTC Sense or Samsung TouchWiz.
-32GB of Internal Memory - Gives you plenty of room for your Music, Apps, and Games. Even photos.
-Screen Size and Resolution - (1280x720/720x1280) on a ~4.7 inch screen.

I could think of more things throughout the day, but those are some of my main arguments for your situation.

I would also like to mention that Samsung makes an amazing extended battery that doesn't change the phone significantly. Granted it only gives you another 300mAH of battery, it makes a difference. I'm willing to bet the battery on the Nexus lasts longer than that of the One X.

No i really do like the One X, What i dont like is the One X that ATT is getting, the processor change is fine (In fact it might be considered an improvement, Benchmarks say its faster than the Tegra 3, and its only a dual core chip vs a quad, plus its built on a 28nm process vs 45nm so theoretically draws less power which means better battery life) but axing 16gb of memory hits me pretty hard (And makes me nervous) if they offered a 32gb model, or the international model thered be no discussion, Id already have the money plunked down on one...

I do really love the Nexus as well mind you, as it tempts me enough to switch carriers, and those are excellent points (Provided i go to the Verizon LTE model which HAS those things) stock ICS is preferable to my eyes over Sense (But i also havnt touched Sense 4.0, so im more "undecided" on that front, I heard Sense 4.0 is pretty nice however)

That said, I did serious questioning to myself last night, How much of my music do i need on my phone these days? Do i not clean out stuff I hate simply because theres no -reason- to clean it out right now (Because i have a 32gb device and im using 15gb of it...) How many situations would i need my vast variety of music there with me?

Basically, Can I cut my music collection down right now without it being a problem... thinking on it, i think it actually might be possible for me to cut my music down from 1700 songs to 1000 pretty easily, Which should get me down to 5-6gb of music, Which would make me comfortable on a 16gb phone...

Of course i might not be able to do that, So the Nexus is still on the table...

Idk it just seems like a big compromise to make wink.gif. I used to have that mindset as well and it bit me in the butt.

Well now theres a third option

The new Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE... Basically a One X in a different body with a micro SD slot plus a bigger battery for $200 on a contract.... That sounds like a heck of a package at a price you cant really argue with...

That said im still cleaning up my music.. sick of skipping things too wink.gif

I did actually, and benchmarks have said that is possibly not a bad thing given its at worst equal to the Tegra 3 in most things from what I'm seeing... with better battery life to boot because its a dual core built on a 28nm process... I think i am willing to make the sacrifice of a little grunt for better battery life when it comes to my phone...

Started weeding through my music, Got through all the A artists and ended up removing around 45 songs already... So we'll see how this goes....
