Nope.

Some of the APP interfaces remind me of using my Xbox 360, and well, I have an Xbox 360 for that. The ease of getting around and making the various adjustments that I like to do is nowhere to be found. I still haven't found the damn control panel. Either I've become blind and it's right in front of me, or MS doesn't want me messing with my own computer anymore to choose what's right for ME.

That said, I like the boot-up time and what seems to be reduced system requirements, but I just can't get into the new layout. Calling things apps now makes this sound like I've got a giant $2400 phone sitting next to me, that I can't take with me when I go to the store. Also, my monitors hate finger smudges, and would probably begrudge being replaced by touchscreens to make daily use easier.

I had a difficult enough time getting the drivers to work for the laptop I used as a test computer, and I still haven't gotten the wireless to work, because the installer hangs up and never fully initiates.

Just my .02.

I'm happy with Windows 7 atm, plus it seems Microsoft has a history of making a terrible OS and then fixing it's problems in the next version. Windows ME was bad then XP came along, Vista at first was completely garbage IMO though they fixed some of the problems and the rest got fixed in Windows 7. If I do end up needing to upgrade I'll probably wait for the rendition after 8.

No because im happy with Windows 7 I dont see that big of a difference in windows 8 ... thumb.gif
post #284 of 680
No,

They made the interface really bad, the only good feature I'd storage spaces which I won't use because I dual boot with Linux and don't have multiple drives. If I had it reinstalled I would downgrade to windows 7 biggrin.gif

There are so many big changes that I am definitely going to take a wait and see approach. I fix computers for a living though so I will have to load it on one machine.

It's a no for now.

There's really not enough reasons to upgrade based on info given so far. But of course this is not my final answer come whenever it's available.

I won't buy windows 8 even if they gave it away for free. I tried it once and i was lost tongue.gif. Plus the fact that touching your monitor feels strange and uneasy and gives fatigue after along time. Windows 8 also killed multitasking for me. I just couldn't figure out how to switch between apps. It's good for tablets but is worthless for pc. Why would anyone use touch when mouse and keyboards are so fast and convenient and precise. I just couldn't bear it on one screen. Imagine the trauma it would cause on my eyefinity setup. Touchable thingies scattered all around on three screens. Poke them and see what happens. Poke again and something even more weirder happens. Poke again and your head explodes biggrin.gif. I was writing a word document and after three pages, i had to search something on the net. So, i opened my web browser but the word document got lost and truth be told i am still searching as to whether that document run off to. So, i touched a few more buttons and weird things started to pop out. I just couldn't find my way around the new Metro style. So, i just turned off every fancy feature and voila, it turned into windows 7. I am not paying money for this stupid magic show microsoft wants me to see. Period. mad.gif

Perhaps the should be a "Maybe" or "If" option. I'll have to amend my choice.

IF I can make a User-Friendly Start Button/Menu combo, for personal use (or if others want it, why not), then I'd consider it, because I can really see potential performance and even security gains.

However, if the Registry entry for disabling the Metro interface finds its way back into the final product (Honestly, it has to, as corporations are not going to want to deal with it, they'll want to lock it down and make it as simple as possible), then I'll lean even more towards "Yes", provided I can disable some of the bogus "Apps" like shop and Xbox Live Companion and the like.
