When 7 came around and I upgraded from Vista I didn't even have SP1 on Vista and I had to upgrade to it so I could install 7 and guess what, I had 0 problems with Vista. All the problems I did have were my fault, people will cry and say the drivers sucked well its true, but, it was the hardware people's fault. It isn't MS's job to create drivers for products, it's the manufacturers. Honestly all this blind hate towards 8 is so stupid, it directly reminds me of Vista. Yeah they changed some things, a lot of people cried about the way Vista worked and look what happened.
I guarantee within a week of release if they don't have it now they will have a tweak to get rid of anything you don't like in 8. I also know some people will say "But we shouldn't have to tweak a final product to get it the way it "should" be". Seriously get over it, if you're on this site you're used to tweaking small little things.

Honestly? You guys are driving me crazy. For one you can't put 2k and millennium even close to being in the same category. Two, what do you think happens when you hit the windows key on 8? Nothing? Wrong I'm sure an equivalent comes, in fact I know something comes up. Do you people forget you have a windows key? Seriously? Also you guys should get a little more familiar with windows hot keys. Look at the guide in my sig if you need to get familiarized. Hit windows key + R if you want to get run to show up. It's so much faster. Windows Key + E for my computer and such, lets progress forward.

I will be purchasing Windows 8. I like bleeding edge and I don't want to buy a previous generation of OS for my computer. I have been using the RP on a second drive and so far it's pretty awesome! Definitely a learning curve and a lot of habits to change but overall it's superior. I have Win7 on SSD and boot time is about 12 seconds to desktop. Win 8 on a laptop 7500k rpm platter drive is pretty much the same amount of time. All the integrations of apps are great. The one thing I see purchasing to really make the experience super is a touchpad comparable to Apple's. I do not want smudges on my screen so a touchpad would be a perfect solution. The integration between xbox/phone/PC/TV is something I've been waiting for years on. As soon as my upgrade eligibility on Verizon is up I plan to switch to a Windows phone even though I love my Nexus but Google does not have integration like I want.

Also, no one seems to remember this: XP at RTM was horrible...horrible...more hated than vista is now. It was only after SP2 and it being in use for so long that everybody decided it was some kind of super-great...damn kids...lawns and what-not...

Maybe back in 1999 Windows 2000 was great, but now it's just annoying to use. XP is rapidly becoming the same way.

No, because the UI is awful, at least for desktop users and people with laptops that don't have touch-screen displays.
