Linux? Linux is good enough for anything I use a laptop for.

Not likely. I just downright hate "metro" from the short time I used it with the consumer preview. I'd like to switch to 8 for the other improvements but it's not worth turning my experience into a headache. I use my computer for work and I'm very effective with my current setup. If the change to metro was optional I'd probably buy 8 and give metro a shot here and there when I have the time and will to use it, but this isn't the case. I'm not going to support something (buy it) when I disagree with what they've done.

Yes!
Reasons:

1. Its much faster than windows
2. I am running bulldozer, which should perform better on Win 8
3. I buy every new Microsoft OS on release date
4. I am currently running the release candidate
5. Windows key + D takes you right to the desktop
6. With a SSD it boots into windows in less than 10 seconds(sometimes faster)
7. With the various shortcut keys you can easily avoid metro
8. The community will release many apps to help you boot right into the desktop
9. Its cheaper than win 7 was at release

Why? I just buy the new one when I get a new PC, if it's actually worth buying. Usually there are some initial program incompatibility issues, and other issues that Microsoft didn't catch.

It's not necessarily for the laptop. I just bought a new laptop with Windows 7 and there was an offer to get Windows 8 for $14.99. For that price I'll definitely buy another full OS. Plus, Linux isn't for me.

ms already blocked/patched a feature like that.

1. It's only faster because it's been designed for tablets, if you've got a decent PC can you really want Windows 7 any faster? I don't even see how this could be much faster myself.
5. It does that on my copy of Windows 7, personally I like the right hand button more but I'll remember that shortcut! thanks! + Rep
6. Again, made for tablets.. who cares if it boots in 10, 15 or 20 seconds? It's all acceptable, it's the mechanical HDD holding back most systems. My system boots in 26 seconds personally.
9. This makes me want to buy it, but price over functionality? The only way I see myself getting Windows 8 is if you can fully disable Metro and if it's good for gaming, or if I'm forced to but another OS should be out by the time that happens. biggrin.gif

It should be great for netbook and tablets.. But not for desktop PC's or decent laptops from what I see

Well, according to the only benchmark I could find; it's somewhat faster than Windows 7 on some tasks.
