Mushkin Redline with P8Z68-V Pro/Gen3

Last night I had a hell of a time trying to get it to work.

I bought 16GB's (4x4) of Mushkin Redline memory. I first installed 2 modules booted up and everything seemed rosey. Played around in Windows for a while ran some benchmark tests and everything seemed cool.

I then shut down and installed the 2 remaining modules...And that's when the problems began.

The first time I booted, at post the mobo recognized that the memory configuration changed and told me to go into BIOS and edit/change the settings and save and reboot. So I did and from there it wouldn't even get to post. Tried re-seating the modules still nothing.

I took 2 back out, got to post and into BIOS saved settings, rebooted and again everything was fine.

I ran Memtest+ for about 30 minutes on each set of DIMMs and no errors were reported.

I took the battery out to reset BIOS and again installed all four modules. Same story. Got to post and into BIOS, and that was it.

I then tried using the MemOK feature on the motherboard. It didn't work the first time time but on the third try it finally did work. When I got into BIOS I didn't do anything except F10. Rebooted and finally booted into Windows succesfully.

I'm not sure however if the RAM is running at optimal spec. I'm not used to this new fangled BIOS so I'm not sure how to read it yet. I'm going to call Mushkin and ASUS in a few minutes to try to get the answers a I need.

My concern is, what's going to happen when I try to overclock? If I had this much trouble just getting it to work at all default settings, I don't have a lot of confidence when I try to OC.

Have any of you used this combo of memory and motherboard and if so, what has your experience been like?

Thanks in advance:)

What settings did you change in the BIOS?

Double check the voltage for your ram is at 1.65v. (1.5 is recommended but your ram is spec'ed at 1.65v and I think it won't harm anything.)

What frequency and timings were you running at?

No I finally gave up and am sending it back tomorrow morning. I spent about two hours on the phone with Shawn in support, he was great in trying to help and by the time we were done I thought we had it.

This morning after about five minutes I was back to square one.

I ordered 16GB G.Skill that I thoroughly investigated first. Should have it tomorrow by 3:00. I'll update the thread tomorrow night. By the way, I had called Mushkin before buying the RAM to make sure it would work and the person I spoke to assured me it would be no problem.

It's a shame because I really like Mushkin and their products and the Redline RAM is pretty bad-ass.

If this was a side project or extra computer I would have tried a bit longer but I need it for work too and don't have time to mess with it.

:doh.gif: You should've got the Samsung..and also..do further tests..on slots..use different sticks..etc..It could be a bad slot on your mobo.

Wow. Absolutely stunned. You didnt even seem to troubleshoot a damn thing...just assume the memory was bad.

No I actually assumed the memory was incompatible. I couldn't find anything anywhere regarding this memory with the MOBO I'm using. Right now I can't get to post no matter what I do. I've tried 3 different kinds of memory and nothing is working. The G.Skill didn't work either. I pulled the battery off the MOBO to reset it and still nothing. I'm at a loss. I called ASUS did everything they told me to and in the end he said it's probably a bad motherboard. So tomorrow I'm going back to Microcenter and get something else. Maybe an Asrock instead. I really wish they still carried EVGA. Never ever had a problem I couldn't solve with an EVGA board.

I must have built close to 40 computers over the past 5 years or so. Occasionally I'd run into some small issues but nothing like this. I'm at a complete loss.
