What was the name of the process that ATI and nVidia has that renders the frames in advance?

I remember reading some users had been successful in reducing microstutter by changing the value of some setting in the CCC for ATI cards from between like 0, 1, or 2. It changes how many frames are rendered in advance of the current one. For the life of me I cannot remember what it was called?

Usually they use triple buffering and then set the maximum pre-rendered frames to the desired value, but triple buffering really shouldn't be used unless you're having serious micro stutter issues, since it can destroy your frame rates.

"Max frames render ahead" for NVIDIA, or "flip queue size" in ATI Tray Tools.

Triple buffering shouldn't hurt frame rates.
