Watercooled FX-8120 Build (First WC build and first AMD build in a long time) - Page 2

No leaks have surfaced (yay!). I've jumped right into overclocking this bad boy. So far I can confirm that overclocking a bulldozer system seems to require a lot of fiddling with settings (not that I'm complaining). I have been running Prime95 with my CPU at 4.5Ghz with 1.4v and the highest temperature I have seen is 46c according to the CPUID Hardware Monitor. I haven't really decided on my overclocking goals yet but I'll probably run some game benchmarks and see what gives me the most benefit.

also...no drain/reliefe line?? oh, duh im sure the pump/res has it build in..

I thought about it but I decided on the mounting it to the floor because I knew there was no way it would get in the way of anything. I knew it would mean the pump had to push the water up higher and it would reduce the flow but I didn't think it was really going to cause any issues with my current loop. I do plan on adding a second radiator to the bottom of the case and at that point I will probably have to move it just to have the room.

As far as a drain line I almost bought a t-fitting and a end cap for a short section of tube but I thought at the time that since my reservoir and pump were at the lowest point in my loop that it wouldn't really matter since I could just unmount it, pull it outside the case and just pull tubes off.

I've been having all kinds of fun experimenting with overclocks. I have been trying all kinds of different overclocks between the bus speed and processor speed. I've almost got it stable with 300fsb/4.5Ghz CPU but I have some memory/bus instability I am working to overcome. I got it stable with 250/4.5 pretty easily as well as 300/4.35. Once I get 300/4.5 stable I am going to see what the highest clock I can get on the CPU is with a 225mhz FSB.

So far I haven't seen anything higher than 44c when running Prime95/OCCT on my overclocks, even with me pushing close to 1.5v. I still have to cut the top panel of the case and attach the modmesh to it. I should have time this week to wrap it all up completely.

As a side note, I redid the thermal paste on my 470GTX with the PK-1 I bought and it dropped my load temps about 10c. Now instead of load temps pushing 100c they stick around 90c. It was totally worth it.

Nice build!

I am planning to start my AMD build this week using the same mobo as you - looking forward to seeing how high I can OC it.

I have finally set in on a stable overclock for my system. This week is the week before finals so I should have some time soon to wrap up everything.

I'm set up with the following
300MHz FSB
4.5GHz CPU @ 1.43125v (shows 1.44v under load in CPUz)
DDR3-2400 11-11-11-30-41-1T @ 1.625v
2.7GHz HT/NB

I am going to start tweaking voltages now to get them down to the lowest while keeping stability. That's going to be a long process as there are a lot of voltages I have to fiddle with to get this thing stable. I've looked at going higher than 4.5GHz but the voltage required to do it just makes it not worth it. My load temps are the low 40s. The highest I have seen was 44c.

Overall I am very happy with the way things have turned out.
