[Solved] Budget build GPU - 560 Ti vs. 7850

Thread Starter
So, I've been wanting to upgrade to a better gaming machine for a while now, and within my budget, it seems to have come down to two cards: the 560 Ti or the HD 7850.

From just looking at the specs, it seems that the 7850 is the more capable card, but being quite a bit newer still has some ground to cover in terms of drivers. Even now, benchmarks seem to show the 7850 ahead of the 560 Ti in everything except BF3, but my problem is that I've been hearing quite a few extremely bad things about the current drivers. I am entirely new to AMD GPUs, so I'm not exactly sure what to expect; Will new drivers bring stability to the 7850 soon, or am I looking at a couple months before everything gets sorted out? Right now, I've been hearing about numerous incidents of BSoDs and extremely low frames in some games (SR: The Third, for example) when using the 7850. Are these problems exaggerated, or is the 7850 going to be a bigger headache than it's worth for a while?

This is what it sounds like: I am really just looking for educated affirmation that choosing the 7850 over the 560 Ti is the right choice. Any advice is appreciated, but please try not to let fanboyism for either company interfere.

Thanks!

Before I ordered 7850, i was between 560ti ,7850 or 6950 and to try to unlock it to 6970,went reading all the review for second time ,post a thread here, and decided.

Which 7850 depends on what you want, but the most quieter is gigabyte due to 100mm fans, but any would be good. smile.gif

I take it, then, that your experience with the drivers has been at least bearable?

For a single card the 7000-series is perfectly fine now. AMD just needs to get their act together on the CFX-side.

I was going to say that I had zero issues with a single card 6770 setup. For a single card, go with the 7850

Going or the 7850 is a good bet, AMD will surely polish the drivers and get the most of it. 560ti being old the drivers are optimizing to the max and surely wont get much more attention with the 600 series launching now

Righto, 7850 it is. Suits me perfectly, since the 7850 I was looking at is cheaper than a 448 560 Ti anyway. Thanks all! +Rep'd everyone (I don't know if that is proper etiquette, but whatever)
