[OCZ] The Wait is Over! OCZ Vertex 4 - Page 7

How come anandTech has the vertex 4 with the highest 4K read/writes :

http://www.anandtech.com/show/5719/ocz-vertex-4-review-256gb-512gb/3

BUT guru3D shows vertex 4 struggling in the very same test :S

They are extreme overkill on every newer SSD and can pretty much be ignored now unless you plan on transferring massive amounts of data (on a daily basis) to an equally fast drive (or separate partition on the same SSD). 4K reads/writes give benefits to everyone. Faster than 400MB/s sustained speeds give benefits to a very small amount of people.
P.S. most installers aren't even coded efficiently enough to max the drive's read/write speeds. How often do you install a 10GB game in 25 seconds? I would bet never. There are software bottlenecks in place.

What would you use for a virtual machine drive with tons of pagefile writes/reads non-stop? The only downfall of the Vertex 4 I can see, is in unaligned I/O.

Looks promising. If there is anything I have learned from SSD's so far, its not to buy the new ones until they get a firmware upgrade or 2 released and get all the bugs worked out. Hopefully these go smoother then last generation.

I reformat often because i test tons of software, and on top of that imagine how much benefit i get with Windows updates, i just have no time to wait. I also have 3 pc's with SSD's so you get the idea, and yes i was at my friends house on pc with similar specs, and he does install the large software quite faster then me, he has 240GB V3MI vs my C300 so ye in my case the sequntial numbers are important.

So, from this thread, I've gathered one piece of information about myself:

I don't know how to use an SSD. redface.gif

I install all of my programs to my WD Black and only have Windows and programs that didn't let me choose where to install them (looking at you, Chrome) on my SSD right now.

so does the vertex 4 have the fastest IO of any SSD with 95,000 and 85,000 for the read/write on 4K random?
Haven't had any issues with my single OCZ vertex 3. Was considering getting a second one in a month or two, but would it be better to sell this and get a Vertex4 instead?

I'm sort of new to SSDs, but damn the speed increase is addicting! biggrin.gif
